How often do you take the kids away on holidays?

And where do you go?

Some years abroad, otherwise in U.K. for main holiday and little breaks at other times

Desmondo2016 · 18/04/2019 07:47

2 or 3 breaks in the UK, center parks and the such like, and 1 fortnight abroad.

famousfour · 18/04/2019 09:12

We go away a fair bit may 4-5 times per year - usually abroad and also to visit my family in my home country. We prioritise it over some other things - I find it’s the best family quality time as we’re away from day to day life admin and we’re less likely to get sucked into work (and are lucky to afford it albeit we work hard to keep costs down).

Thinking about it as a child I had very few family holidays as our leave was mostly spent going back to our home country. But we lived overseas so I travelled a lot in that respect.

LBOCS2 · 18/04/2019 12:38

We try and do one 'hot' holiday, a week somewhere in the UK with the in laws, and a week doing something 'else'. There are 5 of us - two adults, three children between 11-3.

Last year we did a week in Fuerteventura for hot, a week in Rye with the ILs and a week at a gite in France with friends for 'other'.

This year we're doing a week in the New Forest with the ILs, a week at De Kempervennen Centerparcs in the Netherlands for 'other' and no hot holiday as we're buying a house which needs work and the money that would cost will get three rooms decorated!

We normally do 3 weeks in the summer holidays. Drive to France for Eurocamp or a Gite. One year we went to Italy instead. Usually book a week off at Easter and Autumn half term. Sometimes we have done a European city break like Barcelona, Rome, Krakow etc. Sometimes we go to CPs, but prefer the European ones as much much cheaper. Sometimes we have a UK break and rent a cottage or visit family in Yorkshire or Wales. I normally try to squeeze in couple of girly trips with friends if finances allow. I used to ski in my child free days if badly, but dh and dc hate it.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Depends on circumstances I suppose.

You planning to enlighten us as to why you were asking then OP?

CamillafromCobham · 18/04/2019 23:51

Around 5 a year I’d say. One in the summer, (generally Europe, eg Greece) one Oct half term (eg Dubai), long haul Christmas or Easter (eg Thailand or Miami) and one skiing Feb half term plus usually a long weekend to visit my In Laws who live in Italy. Holidays are my weakness. But since my daughter started school, I can’t get over how much they cost in school holidays.

drunkenflamingo2 · 19/04/2019 00:09

I took 7 month old DS to 7 festivals last year.

PlaymobilPirate · 19/04/2019 00:13

So far this year = London at xmas for 3 nights, butlins in Feb for a long weekend, 2 nights in a hotel for a family wedding in March, visit to stay with friends last week.

We're going to Turkey in the summer, will stay with the same friends again at least once more. Might go camping for a couple of nights too.

stanski · 19/04/2019 00:33

5-6 abroad (of which 3 visiting family) and few mini weekends away in UK too, each year.

HairyToity · 19/04/2019 06:46

2 holidays. Both UK. Both self catering. One for a week, and another for 4 nights.

cptartapp · 19/04/2019 07:05

Last year we did Iceland, Lanzarote, Portugal, Spain and Copenhagen.
DS1 also went to USA with school and DS2 to Germany and Scotland.
This year none yet as its GCSE's. Got Greece and Rome lined up and mulling over Budapest for Xmas.
We prioritise holidays and am very aware that they won't want to come with us much longer. Family holidays have been the best times of my life.

Sockwomble · 19/04/2019 07:18

We do a weekend in a holiday in a cottage a few times a year to visit family in the uk. We live in a beautiful part of the country so happy to do days out. We would do city breaks but they would not fit ds's needs nor would a holiday somewhere hot abroad.

Romax · 21/04/2019 07:54

Single mum of 8 and 6 year old

Caribbean
All inclusive
5 star resort
On the beach

Absolute bliss.

When they’re a bit older i am planning an adventure holiday to Croatia involving kayaking and biking, but will wait two year.

Until then... luxury AI resort in guaranteed sunny weather.

Perfection

Romax · 21/04/2019 07:56

Oh an a week in air bnb in menorca. We know and love the area. We just slot in to a lovely routine. Self cater but as just me (and I’m Happy with a week of simple salads) and the children - super simple and then eat out around harbour in the evening.

lljkk · 21/04/2019 08:24

What is a holiday? Serious Q. Is a 2 day trip to Grandmother's a 'holiday'?

Assuming family visits don't qualify, then DC might get one a year, typically.

farmergilesnomore · 21/04/2019 08:32

I said on a thread the other day I don't know why I bothered because they claim they can't remember most of the trips!!

This is so true, I have really prioritised holidays and a recent conversation with my dc revealed that their most prominent holiday memory was me tripping over a low barrier in Gatwick and falling flat on my face Hmm
