I can't remember the name of the paint colour in dd's room

We had dd's room painted a few years ago, it's a light blue Delux shade. I need to find the name of the colour to repaint a section of wall where we had a leak.

Can't find any left over paint in the house and the decorator seems to have disappeared. I bought another sample pot of the one I thought it was but it's not!

Any ideas how I can find out?

go and pick up a load of those colour charts and match them next to the wall... when you have a couple then sample pots....

I would just repaint the whole room. Quick wipe over of the walls & paint, it won’t take long.

The colour will have changed over time and you’ll see a patch even if you do find the colour that was used.

If you really don’t want to do that you’ll need to get a colour card and match it.

Or you could try their colour mixing guys in the Trade places, they’re very helpful to non trade too, they’ll probably be able to tell you, it would help if you could chip a bit off where the repair has been done.

Don't want to pay to have the whole room repainted. It's a big loft room with lots of nooks and crannies.

Even if you found it, chances are it could look different to the rest of the room?

Is it on one wall? Feature wall it instead?

I am a Painter and decorator with 33 years experience.
I had the exact same problem last year with a client.
The wanted the bedroom walls redecorated the same colour but didnt no what colour it was and had no tin left in the garage.
What I did ( plasterboard wall ) I lightly cut a square on the plasterboard and removed the front piece with colour on, I then filled up the fine gap I had created with filler.
I the went to my local decorating centre with the square piece with wall colour on it and then they scan the colour with there machine and then mix it in what paint make you want to use, Dulux, Crown, etc.
I hope this helps.

Paint that one wall in a contrasting colour.

Or depending on the shape of the area you need to paint, find a similar colour eg slightly darker than existing paint, and paint broad stripes or circles in the new colour to camouflage the damage from the leak.

A few years ago I think Mineral Mist was Dulux's biggest blue seller. It's a pale almost creamy blue. I think Blue Babe was also around then.

You might well have to repaint the whole wall anyway though, as fresh paint won't always tone seamlessly with paint that's been on the wall a few years.

You can get away with a surprisingly large amount in difference of shade between walls. Where the walls meet the light falls at different angles and the eye is easily tricked into assuming even completely different paint shades are the same. We only realised we had 3 different shades of paint in our bedroom when we came to repaint.

I'd paint it a contrasting colour too.

twosoups1972 · 18/04/2019 18:43

She doesn't want a contrasting colour.

gc1967 thank you so much, have now spoken to my new decorator who can do this for me Smile

Dulux do an app. that when you scan or take a picture it will find the nearest match. You need good light if you use it though.
