If I'm getting a train from Euston in the next hour do I get a meal and/or free alcohol please? Trying to decide whether to buy something or not. TIA!

Where are you going? It sometimes depends on route and journey length

Guylian2019 · 16/04/2019 16:21

How far?

KenAdams · 16/04/2019 16:24

Only on the Burmingham New Street train

Go check the website. Some trains are dry, some only have sandwiches.

KenAdams · 16/04/2019 16:24

Or Birmingham even...

I've checked the website but no information on drinks

Hi, Travel on VT West Coast quite a bit. In first class you will get minimum tea/coffee/cold drinks plus at this time of day likely to be sandwich and fruit. There is normally some wine/spirits/beers available after the meal.

CraftyGin · 16/04/2019 16:30

Drinks service after each stop.

KenAdams · 16/04/2019 16:36

Perfect thank you all!

Usually sandwich, crisps, cake fruit, drink of choice

lalafafa · 16/04/2019 16:50

There’s a first class lounge at Euston you can use.

CherryCheezcake · 16/04/2019 16:51

Definitely go to the First Class lounge for tea/coffee/ fruit/ biscuits

SalemSpellman · 16/04/2019 17:00

My sister got this train last week, yes you will be offered food and drink. My sis paid £9 to upgrade her seat and said the cost was massively weighed out by all the stuff she had offered to her.

IcaMorgan · 16/04/2019 17:28

Came back from Birmingham at 6pm a few weeks back and got a hot meal, cake, crisps and 4 cans of cider

BallsOfFluff · 16/04/2019 17:37

Surely you wouldn't be on the train long enough to need a meal/free drinks?

I got a free meal when travelling to Newcastle but not when travelling to Liverpool - always travelling 1st Class too.

pinegreen · 16/04/2019 17:39

You’ll probably get a sandwich or cheese plate (ie something simple and pre packaged) plus offer of wine, soft drink, beer.

Nanasueathome · 16/04/2019 18:00

The first class lounge at Euston is very good...pop in there before you get the train
Food will probably be a sandwich and possibly crisps/fruit
Drinks trolley comes round in a regular basis

ForalltheSaints · 16/04/2019 19:22

Not had alcohol offered but have had sandwiches, biscuits and tea. A couple of years since I last had first class though.

KenAdams · 16/04/2019 19:27

Just got back and there were about 4 or 5 meal options and free alcohol as well as lots of snacks :)

BallsOfFluff · 17/04/2019 04:24

Genuine question.

Where did you go? And what for?
This thread went so quickly... from booking the train, to travelling, doing what you needed to do and getting home again in 4 hours?

How did you have time for a meal, alcohol and snacks?

GiantKitten · 17/04/2019 05:58

Surely OP lives in Birmingham & was returning there from London?

BallsOfFluff · 17/04/2019 06:13

@GiantKitten I took it to mean something else. She said she was looking to buy something, I assumed it was something other than a train ticket.
Even so, if OP knew she was going home wouldn't the ticket already be booked?

I may be investing too much headspace in this.

GiantKitten · 17/04/2019 06:19

She was going to buy food at Euston if there wasn’t going to be any on the train Confused

I think you are overthinking this Grin

ThanksItHasPockets · 17/04/2019 07:32

I imagine she needed to decide whether to buy gin in a tin and sandwiches in the M&S, or whether this would be a waste because she’d be offered food and booze as part of the first class service.

redbedheadd · 17/04/2019 07:47

Alcohol is offered during the week all day but not at weekends. Food is breakfast menu until 11ish then switches to all day menu which has hot and cold items. Hot items only available if you are travelling a certain distance.
