Take That

Went to see them with a friend this weekend. They are so old, the audience was old (friend and I included), it made me feel old. But it seems like 2 minutes ago it was the 1990s. The time had just ....gone.

I don't know any of the new stuff but seem to have retained the lyrics to all the 90s hits. I'm not sure it works with three of them. There were people filing out at the end saying that it was the best show they'd ever seen. Maybe I'm just a cynical bastard.

Ummmm they are not old, they are about my age and in their prime!

resultswithintwoweeks · 16/04/2019 11:56

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be, as they say.

I know what you mean about the passage of time though. Frightening sometimes!

anitagreen · 16/04/2019 12:04

This is me with the spice girls I was born in 1993 loved and adored them looked at the reunion show and thought nah where has the time gone?

Oh I LOVED the show! Yeah the audience was distinctly middle aged but so what? Didn’t bother me at all and loved how they came round to the back and so close to where we were sitting! Star

NannaNoodleman · 16/04/2019 12:17

I saw them 25 years ago! TWENTY FIVE!

How am I old enough to have done things 1/4 century ago.

Confused
Haworthia · 16/04/2019 12:19

Their shows are amazing, I’m going in three weeks and went to the last tour too. Their Progress and Circus stadium tours (which I didn’t go to) are guilty pleasures on DVD too Grin

Of course they’re old and the audience are old - it ain’t 1994 anymore Grin

LucilleBluth · 16/04/2019 12:28

I'm 39 so not really old, and I know that 50 isn't old but it's the comparison of them in their prime that makes them seem old. The last few tours they did they didn't seem that past it.

Mark Owen was going for a hipster vibe but not pulling it off, Howard is a bit of spare part and ironically Gary looks and sounds better than he did then.

I don't know why I left with a depressing feeling. I've seen the Foo Fighters multiple times since the late 90s, I adore Dave Grohl , and he's just turned 50 but I saw them last summer and loved it.

Maybe it's my looming 40th and the fact that they were so big when I was in my impressionable teenage years.

They are so old

Fucks sake. Hmm

unicornsrule · 16/04/2019 12:59

I am 40 saw them a few years ago it was amazing they have still got it
I first saw them aged 14

MsFrosty · 16/04/2019 14:01

I enjoyed the concert but it certainly wasn't as theatrical as previous tours. I enjoyed the nostalgia though

resultswithintwoweeks · 16/04/2019 14:42

Maybe they seem so old because they were after all a "teeny-bopper" band? I think bands like Foo Fighters age better.

Plump82 · 16/04/2019 15:49

If you dont know any of their new stuff then you're not a true fan 😋😉
I first saw them when i was 7. I've grown up with them. But they're no way old. Apart from anything some of the photos of Howard from the Sheffield gigs he would put some of the "young'uns" to shame.
I dont care what they look like. They always put on a good show. They truly look like they enjoy is as a 5,4 or 3 peice band and as long as they keep performing then ill be there.

HopeOverAnythingElse · 16/04/2019 16:00

They've been shit for years, but my real WTF
BOYS moment was when they were on Strictly last year and performed their song while jumping on trampolines.

So desperate and gimmicky.

TSSDNCOP · 16/04/2019 16:06

I’m 50. They’re just not any good anymore. MO is just a little cunt and Gary national treasure my arse is holding out for his knighthood. Progress was only good because of Robbie Grin

LucilleBluth · 16/04/2019 16:35

I'm not a true fan....but I was in the early to mid 90s. I was the target demographic, along with the gay men 😀

They did the trampoline thing last night.

Why is MO a cunt? 😀 We left the UK for 7 years in 2006 and I missed all the reunion palaver. The new stuff is not my taste at all....and the 90s stuff is only nostalgia inducing fun.

We went the first night and when they came round the back and Howard said, ‘This next guest has even with us for 30 years...’ Everyone started screaming expecting Robbie and it was just their guitarist! Grin I have photos of Mark as he ran up to Gary laughing and whispering ‘they thought it was Rob!’ Grin I wonder if they’ve changed the way that’s introduced to avoid the disappointment!

Plump82 · 16/04/2019 16:51

Och id have thought Jason!!!!

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 16/04/2019 17:00

Their guitarist isn’t just a guitarist to the fans- the Take That band are so loved by the fans for their loyalty and talent. I love them - I’ll see them at least 4 times this tour and it’s only family and work that stop me doing more. It’s an amazing night out

EanieMeanie · 16/04/2019 17:05

Maybe not Iammummy but the crowd was definitely screaming hoping for Robbie-maybe not ‘just a guitarist’ but also not the same hype as Robbie would have caused! I wonder if he’ll show up at all?

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 16/04/2019 17:23

Don’t think he will
