God I do hope so.

The scenes showing people singing hymns in the streets are so moving.

seventysevenpercent · 15/04/2019 22:05

Firefighters are so so brave.

RedToothBrush · 15/04/2019 22:05

Sécurité Civile Fr @SecCivileFrance
Hundreds of firemen of the Paris Fire Brigade are doing everything they can to bring the terrible #NotreDame fire under control. All means are being used, except for water-bombing aircrafts which, if used, could lead to the collapse of the entire structure of the cathedral.

Nick Griffin. Fuck that guy. He must think this is an opportunity to claim reclaim some of the far right provocateur ground.

RedToothBrush · 15/04/2019 22:07

Nick Fucking Griffin is stirring up trouble on Twitter about it....

The Nationalists from all over Europe will be all over this like a rash, for political gain. Its not good.

GoFiguire · 15/04/2019 22:07

He’s not saying what I think he might be saying, is he?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/04/2019 22:07

RedToothBrush not sure what the row over maintainence was about ... this isn't really the time to think of money, but it's not as if the church has any lack of it

PerkingFaintly · 15/04/2019 22:08

Indeed. There's a certain stamp of person for whom this isn't a disaster, it's an opportunity.Angry

JaneEyre07 · 15/04/2019 22:09

Such a sad sad sight. Hundreds of years of history gone.... in mere hours.

The sound of people singing hymns in the streets brought tears to my eyes.

Propertywoes · 15/04/2019 22:10

It's terribly sad.

Redglitter · 15/04/2019 22:12

I do hope it's been saved from total destruction. The fear is I suppose once the fires out & they get inside will the areas not burnt down be safe to salvage

FishFace2019 · 15/04/2019 22:15

Macron looked utterly devastated, as well he might. But Paris will still be beautiful. I love it so much. Wonderful city.

Elderflower14 · 15/04/2019 22:18

Just saw an ITN journalist being interviewed. She was saying no one had been killed just a fire engine reversed beeping loudly about 10 yards behind her. I thought she shouldn't speak too soon!!

Ofthread · 15/04/2019 22:22

Mirror are reporting that one firefighter is seriously injured.

Justaboy · 15/04/2019 22:23

Exactly!, that went up like the hindenberg those timbers from some pictures were bloody massive. Wonder how much pitch and the like was on them bet there was no fire retardent or protection at all still they can rebuild it, it's after only stone wood and lead and glass.

Lets hope they have enough skilled tradesmen and women too:)

peridito · 15/04/2019 22:27

During a tour of York Minister guide said that in event of fire there were details of which bits to target /save/give priority . Some orginal/older areas .

brizzlemint · 15/04/2019 22:27

Elderflower really! I would smile but, you know.

Nick Griffin has a face that would make me want to punch him if I was that kind of person.

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 15/04/2019 22:28

I love Notre Dame. I'm almost in tears about this. I hope something can be salvaged of this wonderful building.

BorisBadunov · 15/04/2019 22:29

Yes, French media are reporting one pompier seriously injured.

Pompiers can now be seen walking inside the two towers with torches, which is a good sign that the towers may be saved.

Such a tragedy though.

WillGymForPizza · 15/04/2019 22:31

Nick Griffin?! Christ, I hopedthought he was dead. What rock has he crawled out from under?

BorisBadunov · 15/04/2019 22:32

French media also saying that all the art/treasures were put to safety when the firefighters first arrived.

Although that doesn’t include the stained glass and organ. There’s a 2 1/2 year wait for organists wishing to play on it.

PerkingFaintly · 15/04/2019 22:33

Oh god yes, Justaboy, if there was pitch on the timbers they'd presumably go up very much faster.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/04/2019 22:33

Let's hope they have enough skilled tradesmen and women too

I'm quite sure they will; France has a massive pool of very talented people (and a colossal pride in le patrimoine!!)

7Days · 15/04/2019 22:35

I don't get tge remark about N iuck Griffin and the Far Right? How can they possibly make hay from this?

7Days · 15/04/2019 22:36

Sorry about typos
