Carseat age/weight

DN is just over the minimum weight for a trunki boostapak or mifold carseat but he's 3 and it says suitable for 4-12. Could he still use it as he's at the correct weight?

He should stay in a harnessed seat until he's above the weight limit or he's too tall for it. After the harnessed seat he should be in a high backed booster seat

At that age he needs a harnessed seat. He isn't mature enough to sit properly in a booster and his bones are not as mature as an older child's no matter how big or tall he is.

I know ideally he'd be in a harnessed seat but it's to go in a London taxi between two stations. No carseat needed before/after so I was hoping that it would suffice for the short journey. Back to the drawing board!

If it's just for 1 short journey then I'd do it. It's legal not to use a carseat at all in a taxi.

We bought "booster" seats with sides and back but no harnesses, based on Which Best Buys for our DC who were both too heavy for the child seats they'd been in before. My view was that as they were still so young, even though they needed to go up a seat type, I needed something more hardcore. The ones I bought were among the top 2 - 3 on Which at the time (DS' seat was no longer in circulation when DD needed one). Neither had a harness though.
