Anyone know where I can find the volume switch for a boy 2009 edition? He doesn't seem to have come with one as standard fitting?

He appears to be getting louder and louder and I have a headache. The "shhhhh... ya mams got a headache" option is not working. Either has "MiniGin? Volume down"

Tried rebooting him lastnight but that hasn't made a difference.

He's 10 yrs old this Saturday do I need to update him with some software? Just other than the volume and general wallyness he is working relatively well.

TIA

Try some really chewy toffee. Failing that, if you've got any other kids around, you could play, " who can be quiet the longest" with 50p for the winner!

ILoveMaxiBondi · 15/04/2019 10:37

It’s located in the stomach.

FromthePinkGlitterySide · 15/04/2019 10:39

Have you tried that game where they have to hold a fiver against the wall with their nose and the first one to drop it wins the others money? It does require more than one child though. Do you have any later or earlier editions?

Flibberd · 15/04/2019 10:39

I'm not sure the software update will work. Mine's a 2005 edition, but around the same age as yours a software update seemed to happen and it seems to have cancelled the speech function and is emitting a series of grunts. Also exudes a funny smell until nagged to shower.

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 15/04/2019 10:39

Alas no other kids jamrollyolly

I did connect him to the PS4 hoping it what fix the problem but that appears to have enhanced the volume and clarity Hmm

Ahhh Flibberd I read about that in the lifetime guarantee manual. I don't know at what age all that starts but I have heard audible grunts occasionally at various times of the day. Usually when I say MiniGin are you up yet.

It may be that you have to resort to one of the following solutions:-

  • try running down the battery fully. Be careful to totally disengage the 9YO and wait. Restart as slowly as possible without sudden intervention but as the green light shows itself. NB: seeking help from another adult with the start of this process may be advisable:
  • Dial down the button 'aversion to use or TV or electronic media devices for cc' temporarily;
  • Switch on inventive / bribery mode for the required period. Ensure that normal mode is reselected at end of crisis period;
  • purchase one of more or the additional add on such as 'earplugs'

NWQM thank you. I am useless with gadgets and thingymajigs. I still have a brick for a phone. My MiniGin mocks me Grin

Its broken, stick it on EBay

lucysmam · 15/04/2019 11:08

My 2009 girl has the same annoying feature! I'd sell it but it also came with the "super grump" setting and I don't think anyone would be keen on buying one with that setting.

RainbowCake · 15/04/2019 11:14

The 2005 version had an automatic update around 18 months ago, now mostly silent except the occasional deep grunt or more vocal if in hunger mode but tends to be limited to "what's for tea?" " can we have takeaway?" Always directed at the oldest female in the house for some strange reason.
There seems to be a glitch that can't be patched when 2005 model is connected to an xbox and headset that messes with the volume.

Good luck and everything crossed for an update soon.

Bumpsadaisie · 15/04/2019 11:16

I've got the 2011 model. It is loud already, don't tell me it will get louder?

MadisonAvenue · 15/04/2019 11:24

I have the 2000 model. You’ll find that in a couple of years the noise motor starts to fail and wears down to an occasional grunt or something that sounds like a very quiet “dunno”.

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 15/04/2019 11:37

Think mine has the tasmanian devil virus as the volume is also extremely quick and wild as the day progresses. Just refreshed his docking station for tonight. Fingers crossed he will be running better tomorrow.

Watching with interest as Boy 2007 has same design fault. Also has no monologue off switch.

FlibbertyGiblets · 15/04/2019 11:44

There will be an inbuilt update in 3 years time which will induce Home Grunt Mode and Yes Mrs Patterson Mode for outside the home.

Beechview · 15/04/2019 11:45

Running the battery down as much as you can can sometimes switch it into ‘quiet mode’ especially at refuelling times.
Try fast action mode in a park or a garden, or moderate action mode going for a walk. The second option can take longer.
Some models can then happily sit in their docking stations whilst refuelling and downloading entertainment information.

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 15/04/2019 11:51

I knew it couldn't just be my model. Thank the lord. I kept reading the Minis for idiots guide and the trouble shooting page kept coming up with the same answer. "HA HA HA HA you are buggered" is not exactly helpful

A teacher gave me a tip for quietening rumbustious boy-bots - she spoke really quietly so they had to quieten down to here what she said. It used to work wonders with my middle child at that age who also had his volume stuck on loud most of the time and still can't whisper to save his life!!! He's 21 now! Hope your head gets better soon xx

GetTheStartyParted · 15/04/2019 13:22

This trouble shooting has given me some comfort. I have some of the older models but they didn't have the volume control problems that my 2008 model has had for years.

Perhaps he's now out of warranty and will forever remain on high volume? Who knows!
Let me know if you solve the issue please SheWhoDaresGins2 Grin

Babyfoal · 15/04/2019 13:59

Did you keep the receipt?

Willow2017 · 15/04/2019 14:20

My 2005 version has the 'non-stop gibbering mode' stuck on. Cannot go 3 minutes without blethering nonsense.
My 2002 version's sleep mode is fragged and doesnt come on till gone 1am and doesnt switch off untill 8.15 am. Speech mode is stuck on "Ok" and "I am, jeeze i am busy right now will do it later" "can we have take-away?" over and over.

They both need constant input from other devices and cannot seem to move without at least a phone in thier hand (possibly absorbing energy from it or something?) or sitting attached to another device interacting with similar models. Volume function at this time goes up for some reason.

And i may need to take out a loan to keep up with thier refulling!

I fear that they will over clock and fragg completely one of these days.
and peace will reign at last

SheWhoDaresGins2 · 15/04/2019 14:43

Babyfoal the receipt is out in the garden sorting the chickens out Grin

The 1992F and 1999F models have relocated and their communication chips seem to have malfunctioned, the 2005SM and 2007SF models have been repossessed by their Dementor1984F Special Edition and we'd rather like a 2019M or F upgrade.

Unfortunately, the wear and tear inherent from operating the 1973F and 1977M models at capacity mean that an upgrade is somewhat unlikely, so we're making do with a 2004FC (Longhaired Tortoiseshell Colourway) and an extremely defective 2012MC (Tabby Decal) that are currently in Sleep Mode on the settee. I do have a longing for a 2019MD (Beagle Issue), but the 1977M unit seems to think that the ongoing maintenance and fuel requirements would be too onerous.

So I'm going to stick with the defective units, hope for a spontaneous repair for the absent ones and continue lubrication of the 1973F model with a regular top up of 2018Plymouth with the Fentiman's, Ice and a Slice for the next week until the 1973F Model is placed back into normal Operating Mode with approximately 600 models spanning from 2003-2008, most of which have equally inadequate volume control.
