I'm feeling properly sorry for myself today and I've got a LOT of stuff to be getting on with so I need to snap out of it, but I am genuinely in a fair bit of pain.

Pretty sure I've got tonsillitis (I get it quite a lot so it's a familiar feeling) but this time my right ear is really aching. Never really suffered with my ears before so I need your best tips to soothe it. I've taken paracetemol, can't take any NSAIDs so that's about all the pain relief I can take (I
have got co-codamol if it gets really bad later)

Impart your ear-related wisdom on me!! Please Grin

Decongestants, if you can take them, to try and dry up the gunk.

Hot wheat bag on the eaelr. No painkiller works as well. Try chewingcand mouthing weird shapes to see if you can shift anything inside. I don't find putting oil into the ear helpful, it just creates another thing to irritate an already irritated ear. Lie on the bad ear side so that anything can drain.

Thanks all, looks like heat is the way to go.
I dont think there's any gunk inside, I'm assuming it's just pain from my tonsils which are huge atm, and the right side is worse. No spots on them as yet so no point going to the gp, it's almost definitely viral.

I now fully understand why babies are so grumpy when they're suffering with their ears, it's bloody horrible!

Warmed olive oil or ear drops.

Hot water bottle over the painful ear

Garlic in warm olive oil. I utterly swear by it.

My dd was having febrile convulsion after febrile convulsion from temperature spikes from earaches. When I got the barest hint of anything to do with her ear, I chopped garlic into large pieces just to have the cut faces available for the oil. Throw in glugs of olive oil. Into the microwave for 10 seconds. Into a syringe and into the ear. Worked every time, no more earaches, no more convulsions and no more hospital visits.

I was given some sheets on it by an alternative therapist but the above is the main jist of the detail.

Gently heat some sliced garlic and (if you have any, probably not) some white willow bark in olive oil for a couple of minutes, the drip a few drops into your ear.
You can buy ready made garlic and willow bark ear drops on amazon.
