Prescription run out when away

Hi - we're away from home (at place A, moving to place B around lunchtime today).

We've just realised that my 3yo's brown inhaler has run out & we stupidly forgot the spare.

What's the best route to get a new one in your experience?

  • walk-in centre or local GP as an emergency (if we can get an appointment)?
  • pharmacist - can they supply one without prescription?
  • ask our surgery to fax a prescription over to a local pharmacist?

If you’re in the uk I would ring your gp and ask them to fax a prescription over to your nearest pharmacy.

I once forgot my medication on holiday in the UK. I had to get a doctor's appointment at the local surgery. The doctor rang my surgery to confirm what I was on and gave me a new prescription.

Ring your GP and they can fax or send an electronic prescription to the nearest pharmacy. It may take a few hours between you phoning your surgery and the pharmacy actually receiving the prescription. If you phone the pharmacy, you can ask them to phone/text you when it is ready for collection.
