Light hearted....recently realised that I’ve been calling ‘Andrew’s Liver Salts’ .... ‘Saint Andrew’s Liver Salts’.

I have obviously no idea where I got the ‘Saint’ part from it just sounded right Confused I expected to see ‘St’ on the product and was surprised it didn’t have it when someone asked me why I was using Saint when I mentioned i find it useful for hangovers Halo

Anyone else ever realise they have been calling things by totally different names ? Just laughed at my stupidly

My mum always uses the name “House of Frasier”....I need to ask her if she realises it’s wrong...

RaininSummer · 15/04/2019 18:06

My partner always says 'tiramisulu' instead of tiramisu.

Shutuptodd · 15/04/2019 18:29

I thought it was house of faiser for a long time too.

Not in the same vein but when I was about 10 i had never been to church and went to something with my family and remember being horrified at all of these people eating someone's body and drinking their blood.

Hecateh · 15/04/2019 19:09

My niece asked her Mum why they called a car a Flat Panda Grin

Pinkarsedfly · 15/04/2019 19:11

Oh, so I was right!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 15/04/2019 19:15

My mum used to think 'dildo' meant 'silly billy'. She called us it all the time.

She was also a secondary school teacher... Evidently none of the kids saw fit to enlighten her Grin Does she wish the thread?

flippedoff · 15/04/2019 19:18

DH called the Nurburgring the Nuremberg Ring for years.

DM cannot pronounce l'occitane, no matter how many times we help. It remains lock-a-tarny.

JHaniver · 15/04/2019 19:25

I thought biopic was pronounced ‘bi-opic’. I’d never heard it said out loud until quite recently, but the proper version makes more sense.

DesertSky · 15/04/2019 19:25

For years as a child I always called Murray mints Muir-ray mints .. my mum never corrected me!

Ezzie29 · 15/04/2019 19:28

@JHaniver I thought the same until very recently when I heard Joanna Lumley pronounce it as bio-pic, I prefer my way tbh!

Ilovetolurk · 15/04/2019 19:33

My mum used to think 'dildo' meant 'silly billy

Tbf to your mum we had this usage when I was at school. In the knowledge of what one was though

Another xdh malapropism is pruning instead of preening

E.g are you pruning yourself in the mirror AGAIN?

TixieLix · 15/04/2019 19:55

My old nan used to call Jehovas Witnesses "Josafats Witnesses" and Charles Aznavour (singer) was Charles Asnavava. As a child I couldn't pronounce my classmate's name Penelope so she was Penenopee.

Watto1 · 15/04/2019 19:56

The yawning/awning confusion has reminded me that I thought that the Dutch city was really called Hamsterdam for many years! People who said Amsterdam were just dropping the H...

miggeldysthepres · 15/04/2019 20:17

Following on from Thanks Peter God, for years I thought it was Dennis Pray....not Let us Pray. Never queried who Dennis was.

Fernicktylo · 15/04/2019 20:29

Today, at the age of 40, I realised people go hang gliding not hand gliding .

HungryForSnacks · 15/04/2019 20:47

I thought it was Downtown Abbey for years until I started watching it and realized it was Downton Blush

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 15/04/2019 21:03

Only as an adult did I learn how to pronounce the name Imogen.

missmouse101 · 15/04/2019 21:09

I thought it was reNUmerate, but recently discovered it's actually reMUnerate!!

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/04/2019 21:12

Well I thought it was renumerate until ten seconds ago!

Crunchymum · 15/04/2019 21:13

@Shockers

It's funny as my DD calls yawning awning.

"The baby is tired, she is awning"

"I just awned, I must be sleepy"

Although my DD is 4 Grin

Crunchymum · 15/04/2019 21:15

I'm witn you Nico

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/04/2019 21:17
Grin

I'm not stupid honestly!

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 15/04/2019 21:26

One of my kids thought Clarks shoe shops was Clanks because of the typeface, they'd never seen an r written that way before. Obviously we all call the shop Clanks now.

I only recently found out awry wasn't pronounced awe-ree.

And misled isn't my-zulled, but miss-led. Although I still usually read it wrong. But not always, it depends on the context!

princessbananahammock252 · 15/04/2019 21:29

My uncle worked with someone called Penelope. He'd been calling her 'Penny-Lope' for years until I corrected him. He was mortified and I was baffled as to why someone wouldn't correct the pronunciation of their name for so long. Anyway, we found it absolutely hilarious and I still have a giggle when I think about it.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 15/04/2019 21:29

Anemone. Not, it turns out, an-enemy.
