You are a reel of black cotton, and a reel of white cotton...

Where have you gone!?

I knocked you both off the arm of my chair together when I got up for a break from sewing.

You're not under the chair, or in the chair.
You haven't rolled under the sofa.
You haven't rolled under the tv stand.
You haven't gone the other way and ended up under the fish tank.
I cleared out both sewing boxes earlier, wondering if maybe I'd mis-remembered and put you away. But I hadn't (but the bonus is, I now have tidy sewing bags!).
Neither of the girls has seen you anywhere!

Where the fook have you gone to?? And is my red unpick with you? I suspect that went in the bin with a handful of teeny elastic/ribbon/cotton scraps from clearing out the bags but wouldn't mind if it turned up in the same unknown place as you are!

Borrowers?

Coldhandscoldheart · 14/04/2019 20:06

Fruit bowl.
But also check the bin.

lucysmam · 14/04/2019 20:31

@Ncasouting19 it looks that way!

@Coldhandscoldheart definitely not fruit bowl. There are only three apples and a letter in there.

If they're in the bin then that is where they will stay! I scraped the plates before washing up so they'll be covered in gravy by now.

Down the side of the chair?

clandestinenetwork · 14/04/2019 20:43

In that annoying Drawer of Shit that everyone has in the kitchen? Things that live in there have their own means of transportation to get them back to the Drawer.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/04/2019 20:47

Attatched to your clothing - as in caught in a stiff fold or pocket?
I once searched myself silly for my unpicker (mine is yellow) until I found it in the pocket of my hoodie, where it had got caught falling down.

boatyardblues · 14/04/2019 20:49

Do you have a cat? Reels of thread are waaaay fun for cats. Find the cat having a ball, find your thread.

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 14/04/2019 20:51

In your pocket?

If you have a pet, the cotton is wherever they sleep

If you have small dc, cotton is in a toy box / school bag / random drawer

Good luck OP

lucysmam · 14/04/2019 20:52

wineoclock no, not down there. They would have fallen straight through when I took the cushion off to check under it.

clandestine they bloody shouldn't be in the shit drawer! They don't usually live in there but I will check - maybe they are.

Prokupatuscrakedatus I don't think so. My jumper's gone in the laundry basket so I'll find out if it stabs me in the morning when I sort a load of washing to wash!

lucysmam · 14/04/2019 20:54

No, no cat. And smallest dc is grumpy 9yo...she had no idea what they even were when I asked if she'd seen them.

I'm sure they'll turn up...when I no longer need them Hmm

Definitely in your pocket or maybe in the tea caddy, fridge beside the milk found lots of things that shouldn't be in the fridge there. I seem to like keep in everything coldConfused

PacmansGapingMaw · 14/04/2019 20:57

If your sofa backs onto a wall, check the back of the sofa. The top bit. Are they there, leaning against the wall?

Chinks123 · 14/04/2019 20:57

I turned my front room upside down, taken every cushion off the sofa, and been on the brink of tears looking for the tv remote. I gave up, and had to watch tv on my phone.

It was in the wash basket. Blush

PacmansGapingMaw · 14/04/2019 20:58

Also, what did you do in your break? Can you list your actions?

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 14/04/2019 20:59

We're by the loo or in the fridge. You actually picked us up immediately and absendmindedly left us there.

boatyardblues · 14/04/2019 20:59

Where the fook have you gone to??

Alternatively, getting jiggy in a dark drawer. Expect to find some unexplained reels of grey thread in about 9 months.

MrsMozartMkII · 14/04/2019 21:02

Bathroom
Next to the kettle
In the fridge
By the cat food

lucysmam · 14/04/2019 21:29

@PacmansGapingMaw I cooked a roast! (I actually stopped sewing at about 4pm to cook it & was just about to start again when I posted this thread).

Macavity they're in neither the upstairs or downstairs loo.

@boatyardblues I do hope they're being sensible Grin I do not need any more grey threads!

You know you really need to buy new ones. The second you get home with your new stash they will be sitting there, all in the open, pointing and laughing at you.

KittensinaBlender · 14/04/2019 21:52

Dropped through a portal into an alternate dimension?

BillywilliamV · 14/04/2019 21:56

I have them, if you give me £100 in used notes you can have them back,..

Otherwise I will return them 10cm at a time !

BleakBetty · 14/04/2019 22:00

Okay. This thread was not what I imagined at all.

The title made me think that, yes, we are all both a reel of white and a reel of black cotton. The white cotton represents our positivity, kindness, love for ourselves and others, all in human nature that’s good. The black is our negativity, self loathing, selfishness.

We all have both reels, but we decide how we sew the tapestry that is our lives and characters.

I was thinking ‘what a great metaphor’ 😂. I think I might need some sleep...

BleakBetty · 14/04/2019 22:00

But sadly I can’t help you find your actual cotton 🤔

lucysmam · 15/04/2019 08:21

@BleakBetty that made me smile :) and is a very nice way of thinking about ourselves. However...no, it didn't help me find the thread I was actually looking for Grin

I had brown cotton out last night; it's nestled in the bigger hole of my scissors' handles. I wonder if it'll still be there later on when we get home...
