In desperate need of new clothes, but just at a bit of a dead end...none of the shops I used to like are really hitting the mark at moment, I'm generally a practical dresser, no interest in fashion at all, like things that last and wear well as I'm very active and shopping trips are infreqent 🙈-jeans and a denim skirt with a jersey top and ankle boots, occasionally a dress, but I just can't find anything I like:

Joules- too many flowers and stripe, feels a bit 'old'
White stuff- gone totally hippy/the dye/awful
Fatface- drab patterns and sludgy colours
Next - ok but sizing very hit and miss
Bravissimo- like the fit but quality of fabric has gone downhill, last few times I've order clothes haven't lasted/I've sent stuff back for felling nylon-y and cheap
Superdry/river island/teenagers shops- all the tops are too bloody short!
Zara/Mango etc- don't know how to out these clothes together, I'm not fashionable enough and they feel impractical to me

I'm early 30s, one DC, professional job and (a big) size 10, likely to go down to comfy size 10/larger 8 soon. Any recommendations would be massively appreciated.

Tesco and Tu at Sainsbury's.

RuggyPeg · 14/04/2019 16:43

M&S.

Squiff70 · 14/04/2019 16:44

H&M for me at the moment.

Thanks, I do find the odd bit in the supermarket actually.

Sugarhill Brighton - should be 20% over the Easter weekend which makes it reasonable. Fast delivery and speedy returns.

IndigoApple · 14/04/2019 16:55

Oasis and Warehouse

Eggproducer · 14/04/2019 16:58

Seasalt

Ninkaninus · 14/04/2019 17:04

M&S, Oasis, Warehouse, Joules (I pick things that aren’t hugely twee), Phase Eight, Hush, Whistles, Reiss, Jigsaw, Jaeger, Hobbs, Barbour, plus the odd thing from supermarkets and the usual high street ones such as DP, New Look, River Island and TopShop.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 14/04/2019 17:05

Oasis
Mint velvet
Karen Milan for occasion stuff

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 14/04/2019 17:09

Since I had DC (and no privacy or time to shop) supermarkets have been my go to, especially F&F in Tesco. I also like M&S and Next for work things. I’m 39 so a bit older than you though.

Ninkaninus · 14/04/2019 17:14

Oh yes Mint Velvet, and Mango too, for the odd thing.

I get the vast majority of my workwear from M&S, though. It’s fairly good quality for what you pay if you pick fabric and styles well, and I almost always buy in the sale when things are vastly reduced. It also looks pretty good if you style it right, especially if you’re on the taller, slimmer side (but then almost everything looks good when you are tall and slim).

strawbmilk · 14/04/2019 17:14

Cos & and other stories x

user1471453601 · 14/04/2019 17:17

My go to shops tend to be Hush and/or Poetry. The sizes are usually consistent and I've always found the quality fine

Synecdoche · 14/04/2019 17:23

I live in Gap. There's a 50% online sale on at the moment as well!

Nanasueathome · 14/04/2019 17:24

Hush
Cos
Toast

user1471548941 · 14/04/2019 17:27

Oasis avoids all the things you don’t like about the others.

SoupDragon · 14/04/2019 17:31

Esprit.co.uk

Ninkaninus · 14/04/2019 17:44

Forgot Toast! If I was near a Cos I would definitely shop there, except I’m definitely not their target demographic in that I’m not tall and willowy... but I think if I were able to go in and try things on I’d definitely find things that suit.

Processedpea · 14/04/2019 17:45

Uniqlo

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/04/2019 17:47

M&S
Uniqlo
Tu at Sainsbury
QVC some brands
Primark (mainly bras, I like loads)
Next for jeans

KatnissMellark · 14/04/2019 18:07

Thank you! I feel an internet shopping evening coming on. Sugarhill Brighton looks good and a few others I've not heard of so will check out!

Ninkaninus · 14/04/2019 18:08

M&S comes up very big so you will need to go down a size from your high street size.

LadyR77 · 14/04/2019 18:26

H&M, Tu, Joanie Clothing (online), Popsy Clothing (again, online), Uniqlo, Oasis and Gap.

thetwinkletoescollective · 14/04/2019 18:47

Go for natural fabrics as these always look better (unless you have an ethical objection) eg cashmere jumpers, cotton summer dresses, leather shoes and bag.

I like jigsaw, whistles, tu at sainsbury, some m and s, phase 8, monsoon, next jeans, la redoute, Zara xx

southernbelles · 14/04/2019 20:46

I always rely on Oasis while avoiding trendier shops like River Island & Topshop. For context I'm early 30s, size 10-12. I'm guaranteed to always find something I like in Oasis.
