Top interview tips for the nervous/ want to die up types

I have an interview for a job that I really really really want and need.

I have never wanted a job this badly. Usually I'm just a bit meh if I don't get a job and just move on but that was up until now. I don't even know how I blagged myself an interview tbh as I didn't quite fulfill all the essential criteria but I ain't complaining!

Anyway, I'm pretty shit at interviews. I just want to curl up and hide and run away. I bloody hate them. I so wish there was another way to get jobs. Something really ought to be changed about that.

So, could I please have all your best tips on how to best prepare, during the interview, how best to answer questions etc.

When is your interview?

I'm no expert but these things work for me.

I find it helps to put on a little bit of a persona; you, but more confident. Try to appear interested and enthusiastic. Bring in a notepad with a couple of prompts of things you want to talk about e.g. relevant experience you have and projects you've worked on that will help you in this job (having something to hold also stops you having awkwardly empty or shaking hands!).

Don't be afraid to stop and take a breath if you find yourself nervously chattering. If they ask a question then it's perfectly OK to stop and consider for a few seconds (try to look like you're thoughtful and considering though, not just staring at the interviewers like a dead fish). Do a lot of preparation work by reading about the company, practice answering common interview questions outloud, and have some questions of your own prepared and written in your notebook.

Most of all try to keep a sense of perspective about it and treat it more like a conversation than an interrogation.

Practical tips: avoid too much caffeine just beforehand, dress smartly and arrive 15 minutes early.
