do you shop at Debenhams?

I get an occasional gift voucher for debenhams given to me, but this year struggled to find anything, perhaps it was bad timing, there was a huge jumble sale of a sale going on.
but it has never been my go to shop.
is it yours?

Agree with others - used to buy a lot there, but it went downhill and never updated, never responded to convenience of internet shopping, stores are tatty, good ranges are gone etc.

DaisyDreaming · 15/04/2019 18:56

I like their dresses in the sale and Christmas decorations in the sale, would never buy anything fulll price as you always know it will be reduced

Ihatesundays · 15/04/2019 19:11

I like to buy DD clothes from there but I can only get the things online, they aren’t even in the shops.

Do you think it's still safe to order online?

Sexnotgender · 16/04/2019 07:41

I buy makeup when they have offers on. Other than that not really no.

Ihatesundays · 16/04/2019 07:59

Panda -I just did an order, it came very quickly

Used to shop there a lot. Usually the best of the clothing stores for menswear a few years back compared to everywhere else in our town (and we had pretty much every well known store). The Mantaray stuff was generally good quality.

But something went wrong. The shop always looked messy and jumbled. Menswear didn't look too bad but the womens section was always a total shambles.

Our one closed but there'a another one a few miles away. I don't use it sadly. I went in a couple of times and it just had the lingering smell of death.

Letthemysterybe · 16/04/2019 08:10

I try to! When I’m shopping I will go in and have a look, but it’s like a jumble sale and there is just so much polyester. And the service is crap.

happypotamus · 16/04/2019 08:11

I go for the children's clothes though only in the sale. I will miss bluezoo if it closes. I have also bought homeware in there. Before we had a John Lewis in this city it was probably the only place to go and buy e.g a kettle (and we couldn't really order one online and wait a few days for it to be delivered when the kettle died one morning). I went in yesterday, because DD has no taste and chose that cafe instead of the one in John Lewis(!) and I couldn't be bothered to argue. The shop was reasonably busy. The cafe was also surprisingly busy even though it is a bit shit, had a random menu, had no toasted sandwiches (they hadn't been delivered apparently) and no hot chocolate.

MondeoFan · 16/04/2019 08:17

I used to buy a lot in there 10-12 years ago mostly for younger DD
When I go in there now to look at clothes for younger DD blue zoo etc they are all the same sort of style. I don't want the same clothes 10 years on I want them to look completely different so don't buy

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/04/2019 08:21

I like mantaray stuff. I am tempted to place an online order. But also scared. My nearest debs is 45 mins drive away. It will ruin the town if it closes. It’s the main feature of the high street.

SushiGo · 16/04/2019 08:28

I got a few bits recently, shoes, work shirt, jeans... I've honestly never really shopped there before but am now much more pressed for time so I had a bit of a 'oh, this is what department stores are for!' moment because I could try clothes on from loads of different concessions in one go.

I'm a bit gutted!

M&S is too old for me and John Lewis too expensive, so I'm disappointed that debenhams may go.

Mamaslave18 · 16/04/2019 08:30

I’ve been trying to support my local Debenhams but they make it hard. I tried buying a multi pack of knickers but they had none in my size - 12!
There were no mirrors on the womenswear section. I was shopping with a toddler so couldn't try anything on but I wanted to hold things up to see the length on me it if the colours suited etc.
Their homeware is good but very expensive.
Similarly with the kids clothes. Very expensive compared to other shops.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 16/04/2019 08:37

Our local one is so dark and tatty.
The lighting gives me a headache and it’s just a mess.
The only thing I like in there is Tripp luggage.

RussellSprout · 16/04/2019 08:45

In our town first m and s closed then next, now debenhams is on the way out!
You can get to an out of town retail park 5 miles away where they have built mahoosive m and s and next, but it's a bit soul-less.

In the town centre they have replaced shops with a cinema and places like pizza express and bella italia.

Its a shame as I used to like going there for a browse, although I am probably part of the problem as I buy 90% of my clothes online, I prefer to try it on at home and it's only a quick trip to the my hermes shop to return rather than another trek into the town centre.

Blackandpurple · 16/04/2019 08:46

Only browse in the sale. I rarely buy anything out if sale in any shop!

1moreglassplease · 16/04/2019 10:21

I'll be gutted if ours closes as it's the only department store in town and our M&S is closing at beginning of May. Ours used to be fantastic and had a huge homeware department where you could pretty much get everything and I kitted out my home over 20 years ago and items are still going strong. This has now disappeared to a tiny corner of the store and you're lucky to find anything at all.

I love their nightwear and undies and also a fan of Manterey and a few bits from Maine. I've had some lovely cotton summer dresses from Jasper Conran range over the last couple of years but I see Ben de Lisi has jumped ship from Principles (now on QVC!).

Lavellan · 16/04/2019 10:26

Sometimes I manage to find a dress for a wedding. I'm an 18 and they rarely have plus sizes in our store.

TeenTimesTwo · 16/04/2019 11:50

No.

Except...

We recently did a 'personal shopper' session for my 2 teen DDs to find clothes for a smart wedding. They had a fab time, the assistant was really helpful, and we ended up with two outfits and accessories.

PH03b3 · 16/04/2019 13:24

I think it tries to be too many things to too many people and isnt good at anything.

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 16/04/2019 14:02

I buy my bras there but with being a larger size, should really go to bravissimo and get properly fitted. I feel like I get rushed at Debenhams despite them providing fitting service.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 16/04/2019 14:23

My eyebrows come from Debenhams, they’re the only place with a fully functional Benefit concession in my city. They have the only Urban Decay concession too. I’ll be sad if it goes, purely becuse I like the girls who do my eyebrows. Hopefully they’ll get employment locally and I can transfer to their new salon.
