do you shop at Debenhams?

I get an occasional gift voucher for debenhams given to me, but this year struggled to find anything, perhaps it was bad timing, there was a huge jumble sale of a sale going on.
but it has never been my go to shop.
is it yours?

I really like Debenhams. And I do shop in there. A mix of the concessions and their own label stuff.
Bluezoo clothing also looks fab on my six year old daughter and I find it suitably young enough too. I'll be gutted if it disappears.

RussellSprout · 14/04/2019 07:53

I usually buy mantaray dresses for summer but this year's offering is shit.

I do like Debs though and will be sorry if it goes under.

I think they have overdone the 20% off weekends though. Why buy at full price when you know they'll soon have a discount weekend?

PandaG · 14/04/2019 07:54

I like Mantaray clothes, as does DH. Used to buy children's clothes there too when kids were small.

I always thought that their pricing policy was weird. They regularly have Blue Cross sales. So regularly that you could set a clock by them!
Therefore I would never bother to shop unless it was a BCS.

WatchingFromTheWings · 14/04/2019 07:56

I like Debenhams. Worked for them for 8 years and my kids (well, the whole family really!) were pretty much kitted out in all their clothes. I used to buy heaps in the sales and with 25% staff discount ontop I saved a fortune. When I left my youngest was fully kitted out with clothes for a further 2 years with stuff I bought in bigger sizes and stashed away.

I still shop online and I store with them regularly. I love their bras. No idea where I'll shop for them if they go under! 😟

And I feel very sorry for all my ex colleagues who are still there and may be made jobless.

Last time I went in around 3/4 years ago - it was an utterly dismal uninspiring mish-mash with an underwhelming feel of apathy & despair. So noGrin

polloppllo · 14/04/2019 08:02

I used to work for a supplier of kids clothing for them. Their clothes are from the same factories that make for primark. Enough said!

stucknoue · 14/04/2019 08:06

I like Debenhams, it's own range can be good for business wear and the concessions are a good range. Evening wear is particularly good. John Lewis isn't the same, their brands are more mumsy.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 14/04/2019 08:07

I have a lovely ¾ length coat that was reduced from £250 to £80 some years ago. It's the only thing I own from there, as there was no Debenhams where we lived. I did a lot of work for their supply chain; the stories I could tell!

CherryPavlova · 14/04/2019 08:08

We don’t have a local Debenhams If I’m in another city shopping I very occasionally pop in and have purchased shoes, swimming costumes and luggage from there. I don’t use them often enough to have a real view but our local Army by Navy has shut and that has definitely altered the shopping experience in town, sadly.

Monkeyssplit · 14/04/2019 08:08

I used to work near one and frequently bought clothes, make up and accessories from there. I moved house and jobs years ago and am no longer anywhere near a Debenhams. I haven't been there since. I suppose I cannot complain they are closing down when I haven't supported them in such a long time.

RezCowgirl · 14/04/2019 08:11

My mum always buses to drag me in but I could never find anything. Not been in one of their stores for ten years or more.

mogtheexcellent · 14/04/2019 08:14

I like the mantaray range for myself. Other than that I don't shop there. And I never pay full price. It's the same with sainsburys tu and gap. They have 25% off events so often it mad to buy outside of this.

I ordered a lot of stuff from there but only keeping half of it. I'm taking it back to the shop instead of posting back just in case.

Fairypiggy · 14/04/2019 08:14

I use our local one to get make up. I was disappointed last month when I brought a new bag for the faith range and within 2 weeks the zip had come off and the stitching was coming off the pocket.
Weirdly as I was reading this thread they happened to send me a marketing email!

skankingpiglet · 14/04/2019 08:18

I don't often buy new clothes for me or DCs but it's a store I always take a look in on the occasion I am clothes shopping. I love Bluezoo and Mantaray. Bluezoo designs are ones that I just always seem drawn to: a huge portion of clothes I pick up at nearly new sales turn out to be Bluezoo when I check the label.
I bought a couple of items last week to put away for the DCs birthdays, and previously last shopped in there in the January sales. I'll likely be back to look for a couple of items for me at the start of summer (if they are still there!).

Somuchroom · 14/04/2019 08:18

Yes I do. It’s my favourite shop in the world and I buy all of my ds clothes from there. If they disappear from our little high street there will not be another shop that sells decent quality stuff. But there will be 3 pound shops and a bm bargains which IMO just sells crap that doesn’t last.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 14/04/2019 08:18

I like it there. I get PJs, underwear, some clothes from there, plus some stuff for DS. Admittedly, I haven't been much in the last year but that's because I'm working, have a toddler and pregnant again. I'll be gutted if our local one closes.

Chopchopbusybusy · 14/04/2019 08:18

I like Debenhams. Most of my clothes are from the Mantaray label.
DH likes it too.

The stores are very tired looking but the stock is good. I’ll be upset if it disappears.

Peterpiperpickedwrong · 14/04/2019 08:19

I get a £50 gift voucher for their every Christmas from a relative and I spend a couple of hundred in there every Christmas buying Christmas gifts but I did really struggle in December.

I used my voucher online and the item wasn’t right and was surprised to find they had stopped their free returns. Now I know why.

Pinkprincess1978 · 14/04/2019 08:25

We don't have one in our town (we do have a house of Frazer though and I don't shop there). I do usually go into Debenhams when we go to nearby city to shop, usually at xmas. Generally I only go to the kitchen/household section.

The clothes are to pricy for me and not plus size. And I don't like department stores for make up and perfume as I feel pressured by all the staff.

Elderflower14 · 14/04/2019 08:27

I go into Debenhams, get in the lift, travel up to the loo, use the loo, travel down in the lift and leave. Only decent loo in the town. Used to use BHS before they closed....

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 14/04/2019 08:29

Haven't been in there for ages. Occasionally used to get clothes from Red Herring.

TerribleTwosPhase · 14/04/2019 08:31

Agree with the pressure from the beauty department Pinkprincess1978 I was pressurised in to getting a beauty loyalty card in Debenhams yesterday despite the fact that I don't even buy my makeup from there Blush

RoseMartha · 14/04/2019 08:31

Only if I am given a voucher then I use it in mantaray section.

lunar1 · 14/04/2019 08:31

No, I've tried, I go in there and look. Honestly though, it's like the department store version of WHSmiths.

Stuff everywhere, cluttered and disorganised, but still priced like they think they can compete with Selfridges and John Lewis.
