We were on holiday in August 2016 when we realised he was the same height as me (he was 12). He's now 15 and 12" taller. I can't keep up with the feeding and don't even start on the clothes ...

When do they stop growing?!

DS is 6’3 at (just) 14. Taller than his dad (6’1) and me (5’11). Will he get much taller?

He is enormous and so strong. When he hugs me he sometimes picks me up off the ground Grin.

CMOTDibbler · 13/04/2019 21:51

Yup. I bought school trousers in a size too big and in XL length (so I had room to turn them up) at the beginning of the year. Unpicked to the max they are too short now by an inch. His blazer (too big in September) is too short in the sleeves, and his shoes are also too small.

He's 12, 5'7, but predicted to be about 6'5 so I have a lot of trouser buying to do. His grown up male cousins are between 6'1 and 6'8, and dh is 6'3, so its not exactly a surprise, but I really didn't quite grasp what this meant in terms of your child rarely having clothes that actually fit!

BlessYourCottonSocks · 13/04/2019 22:02

Oh God, yes. DS has got size 11 feet. He is 13. He is basically a 5ft 11" toddler, who eats all the time and still complains he is hungry. He has also outgrown his tendons and has lumps underneath each knee.

I would just like to hijack this thread to winge that I was supposed to be about 6'1" (as a woman) but topped out at 5'8". My bitterness aside, my little cousin has shot up at an alarming rate over the last year.

PlatypusPie · 13/04/2019 22:10

My DH grew 8” over the school summer holidays when he was 15, which made him very tired and achey, apparently. Also made him tower over his two older brothers and his father and his tiny mother.

Made him very sympathetic to our DD2 who had a big catch up growth spurt of 3” at 13 after being smallest in the class for so long.

MorrisZapp · 13/04/2019 22:16

My brother was always huge compared to his mates until he was about 15, then he stopped growing. He's an average sized man now.

The only reason I became a parent was to have someone to nick hoodies off. At 8, DS is about one year away from being my size in tops. I will consider it job done when I can finally wear his stuff as the good lord intended.

JustAWaferThinMint · 13/04/2019 22:18

Keep hoping my DS13(.5) will do this soon. I am only 5'2" and he is still smaller than me. DH is only 5'9", so the poor boy doesn't stand much chance of being tall, and has my body type so won't be broad either. At this rate, he'll be lucky to have to make 5'6" Sad

JustAWaferThinMint · 13/04/2019 22:19

Random sentence construction at the end. Blame wine. You get the gist.

DeadDoorpost · 13/04/2019 22:22

All 8 BiL are at least 3 inches taller than me.. the tallest is at least 6'4. MiL is certain her youngest, aged 16, isn't done growing and he's 5'10. He's not had the growth spurt the others have all had yet. He eats loads, and has size 12 feet already. All of them eat so much I don't know how she kept up with their appetites.

ChiaraRimini · 13/04/2019 22:25

Just, he will probably shoot up in the next couple of years. I know quite a few boys who were short pre-puberty and are now 6'
+
My DS2 had size 12 feet at age 15, it took a while for the rest of him to catch up. He's 17 now and 6'2".
His little sister is on the 25th centile and I think is going to be the short arse of the family.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 13/04/2019 22:25

My DS was 5'2" at age 12. There's a lot of time for growing yet!

His best friend at school (since Y7) is still only about 5'4". They do look odd together.

My ds is in year 11, was 16 last month. I'm a size 8 shoe. He was in a size 8 at 8 and grew a size every year, starting year 7 in an 11. I was panicking!
He stopped at a 14 when he was 14 thank god. Well over 6ft, my brother is 6ft 7 and ds's dad is 6ft 3.
I've got the opposite problem with clothes as he's been on SW for just over a year and lost 5st 13lb so literally everything from school uniform to underwear and everything else has had to be replaced.
It was quite a revalation to find socks in size 12-14 rather than usual 6-11.

I look at the pictures of my tiny 5lb 15oz baby boy and wonder what happened Grin

SofaSurfer20 · 13/04/2019 22:29

As a 5ft3 woman, will you lot stop giving birth to giants? I feel small enough! 😆

ExCwmbranDweller · 13/04/2019 22:29

Just realised I spent years with DS2 being amongst the shortest in his age group and everyone saying 'he'll have a growth spurt' and thinking in my head oh shut up, he's just made small, he'll always be small. Off to eat my hat if anyone needs me.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 13/04/2019 22:30

Can I just have a whinge about shoes, while we're at it?

Why have manufacturers not clicked with this? All of us here complaining about the size of the men and boys in our lives? And yet every damn shoe shop I go in has shoes from a 7 to a 10/11. Do they not realise boys feet are bigger these days? DH takes a 13 and it is hopeless trying to buy shoes for him - you basically go into Clarks and if they have ANYTHING in his size you buy it.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 13/04/2019 22:31

Just, agree that he's got plenty of time. Also the ones who grow later tend to grow more. Further, I think it's a shame that society has so many naff notions about men's height. After all it's hardly something that one can control. If it makes you feel any better, my very dear friend from school who is a firm hit with Laydeez getting much more attention than others is around 5'6. I appreciate this may not be what you want for your ds!

BlessYourCottonSocks · 13/04/2019 22:32

Don't get me started on trainers and footy boots for school....

What do I do if the boy's feet grow any more? I'm already struggling with him skulking in surly fashion round Sports Direct and JD Sports because he wants cool stuff and they don't do it in his size..

ineedteanownotlater · 13/04/2019 22:34

My eldest is 6ft @ 12! And size 11 feet! I hope he stops soon!

bibbitybobbityyhat · 13/04/2019 22:35

I agree about clothes sizing.

I couldn't buy school trousers for my DD (a mere 5'8") in children's sizes so had to pay VAT on adult sized clothing. That annoyed me.

My dh is 6'3" - tall but not freakish - but cannot buy long enough trousers off the peg in any high street shop, and it is a very rare day when he can find size 12 shoes in stock.

OP posts:
MotherForkinShirtBalls · 13/04/2019 22:35

Ah balls, ds isn't yet 7 and 125cm tall and we can't keep him fed. He's going to be a monster, isn't he?

JustAWaferThinMint · 13/04/2019 22:42

He is a good looking boy, so may well be a hit with the girls despite likely diminutive stature! I have made the mistake of reading too many pieces about unconscious bias and tall people always being perceived as more capable, earning more, achieving more etc. And, as he is also dyslexic, he really doesn't need any other disadvantages. Not that I can do anything about the height piece!

DonnaDarko · 13/04/2019 22:43

I'm 5"2 and my nearly 3 year old is already more than half my height. DP is only 5'11", but a lot of men in my family are really tall.

He already eats more than I do :/

Mrscaindingle · 13/04/2019 22:45

We are going through this at the moment I am spending a small fortune in groceries and all I get is complaints that there's nothing to eat.

DS2 (15) has grown from 5ft 7" to 6ft in less than a year and DS1 is now moaning that at 6ft he is going to be the short arse in the family of boy cousins who are all giants.
We took DS 2 to the GP as he was experiencing dizziness due to his brain being unable to keep up with the growth spurts. GP said DS was 'on trend' as all the research is pointing to this generation being enormous.

Zoflorabore · 13/04/2019 22:48

Under Armour and Nike do up to size 14 at JD sports.
The box is always so big that it sticks out the top of the JD bag!

I'm just glad he stopped at a 14, had visions of canoes at one point.

PickAChew · 13/04/2019 22:50

Yep. I have a just a spit off 13 year old who I could rest my chin on, last summer. He's almost my height, now. His brother followed the same trajectory and is now 5'11 at 15 so easily a foot in 3 years. He's also piling on the weight, unfortunately, after being a skinny streak of nothing, most of his life.
