Are photo albums things of the past?

I mean actual physical albums. Books with photos stuck in them. I'm just wondering if anyone still keeps them, when my children were growing up in the 80s and 90s every family holiday, birthday, Christmas, special occasion and milestone was documented in albums which I've still got to look back on. But for the last several years all my pictures have been stored either on a laptop or in Google photos. Lots of pictures have been lost when a laptop has fried and if I die without anyone knowing my Google password all those will be lost too. I suspect the same is true for a lot of people and it seems sad that future generations might not be able to look back at family history.

I love a “proper” photo album, we have loads!

I print photos. I love looking back at physical photos from my childhood and want to always have some physical photos of my life

I made a photo album for my dad for his 60th. I spent hours looking through old family photographs, scanned them all in, got them printed and put them in the album in roughly chronological order. There must have been about 200 photographs.
It made him cry.

Ive spent an hour this morning putting my latest bunch of prints in album. I love having an actual album to look through and my teenager loves going through them every now and again.

I print then off and make collages and frame them.
I've not updated the album's for a few years. The photos are piled up.

We print a photo book every couple of years. They last much better than albums with individual photos stuck in.

We have proper photo albums. I love looking through them and so do my dc. I print my phone and proper camera pics each month, put them into an album and then write a little paragraph next to each photo about what it's of, who's in it, where they are and what they're doing. It's nicer than swiping on someone's phone and easier to concentrate on each image I think.

You're all giving me hope for the future. I remember someone once saying they'd lost their phone and all, ALL their photos of their child were on it.

I actually don't have proper photo albums anymore but all my digital photos are backed up and I regularly make photo books.

BrieAndChilli · 13/04/2019 15:35

We don’t print out photos but all photos on our various phones/tablets automatically upload to a central app. DH then uploads them onto the pc. All photos are then backed up on a hard drive in a fireproof safe As well as being backed up online somewhere, in Germany I think.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 13/04/2019 15:37

I keep meaning to print out yearly photobooks and never get round to it. But all photos are backed up automatically onto 2 different cloud servers and copied onto our home hub.

I love a good photo album. I always have a Photobook going on my phone then every December I print it out and put it up with the Christmas decorations so we can look through all of the things we've done that year.

I also have a Christmas album and each year I put pics in from Christmas Day and other Christmassy things we've done. It's only about 4 years old but I secretly dream that it'll become a treasured family heirloom packed full of happy memories.

I usually do a holiday one too and I'm in the process of doing ones from old holidays that have just been stored on my laptop for ages.

I print photos out and put them in albums.
