Anyone done homestays for international students?

I've been having a look at this - it seems to bring in a bit more money than having a lodger. I'm in a big city with lots of language schools.

I wouldn't want to do the younger ones - I'd want to do 16+ or 18+. I live alone with a slightly twatty dog. Mid 20s.

Has anyone tried it? I'm not sure if it's worth the additional faff over having a lodger. For instance, if I wanted to go away for the weekend to visit family would I still be able to do that, leaving the host student unattended?

Friends of mine do it in Kent. They swear by it, it pays their mortgage.
