I had a root canal treatment about 2 weeks ago and have a temp crown.

Before I had the treatment I was getting twinges where the root was and discomfort when I touched the side of my nose. I am getting this now along with twinges during change of temperature.

I am due to get the crown fitted next week, is this likely to settle down or more likely to get worse?

I will add that I had a lot of swelling from my nose to my eye which took almost a week to go, and even then it came back slightly under my eye, which at one time looked as if I had been punched.

Any thoughts please?

Hiya, I had 2 root canals about 10years ago and crowns put on about 5 years ago. I’ve had to have antibiotics twice during this time as I’ve had an infection underneath the treated tooth. I can’t remember what it’s called but apparently it’s a common problem after having a root canal. I’ve been told by my dentist that unless I’m having reoccurring infections it’s nothing to worry about. But if I was there’s two options either remove the tooth all together Shock or have a small cut to the gum and have the bottom of the tooth “root canaled” also if that makes sense Grin. Good luck hopefully it’s only abit of pain/swelling from having it all done

Could be a Phoenix abscess, could be the RCT failing, could be the tooth settling - it’s difficult to know. It’s why I stick to the old school of thought of giving teeth chance to settle before crowning rather than the newer school of thought which is to provide cuspal coverage straight away.

Thank you both.

I was concerned about an abscess, had one some years ago.

@RobinHumphries - Tooth was damaged for a while, I hadn't realised at first, then there were twinges and the nose thing started which is when I went to the dentist. I was expecting it to be a bit rough due to it being a canine tooth but thought it would have settled in 2 weeks?

I am not new to this procedure, have a few crowns but never anything as bad as this so just not sure whether to put off the next appointment or go and explain when I get there, am concerned it will be crowned permanently and then be a problem and with what it is costing I am reluctant to have to spend any more to put it right later.
