Why do you think we love our pets so much?

Just sitting looking at my beautiful chocolate lab and thinking how much we all absolutely adore him, even though he can be a bit of a twat.

He's starting to get grey/white around his chin and has that kind of 'old man' thing going on but if I even think about losing him, I feel sick to my stomach.

He's a constant. When things are great/crap/scary/sad, he's still there with a cuddle and a waggy tail. I wonder why it is we feel such strong love for these wonderful creatures who we can't even talk with (although I have full blown conversations with him but you know what I mean)?

catching I'm so glad of the time that I had her and i rescued her so know she had a fab life with me.

We've shed more tears and had more heartache in this house over lost cats than we have human relatives.
They climb into your heart and make you love them. That's the only way I can explain it.

There's just something about animals that's good for the soul,

^this. I work with animals and not only do I love my own I pretty much fall in love with every one that walks through the door every day. Today alone I've had a very nervous rottweiler who ended up following me around giving me not one but two paws for a biscuit, a very affectionate border collie who actually knocked me off my feet, so affectionate was he! And a badly injured cat who just cuddled in whilst she had her dressings changed. I bloody love animals.

Here he is, matching the cushions nicely. 😁

@Catchingbentcoppers ahhh just lovely 😍❤️

I'm sure he knows I'm talking about him. He's doing that staring at me silently wagging his tail thing. 😁

Or he's just passed wind and he's wafting it to you (because that's why dogs have tails, to get rid of the evidence ) Wink

I agree with all of the above and also the amount of time we spend with our pets plays a big factor IMO. I spend more quality time with my cat than I do many of my family members and I’m not ashamed to say I feel a lot more love and affection for my cat than I do most of my family and friends.

Strawberry that's such a gorgeous photo. What a sweetheart.

Catching goodness he's a handsome fellow

BusySittingDown · 12/04/2019 21:32

Aw, I've been snuggling with mine all evening.

She's just the softest most gentle little thing. So placid and patient and she just wants everyone to be her friend. She's just lovely.

clandestinenetwork · 12/04/2019 21:34

I am SO jealous of those of you with Labs EnvyEnvyEnvy

madcatladyforever · 12/04/2019 21:36

Because they are loyal for life and don't abandon you like husbands. I've had 100 times more love from my animals than I have from any person.

Decormad38 · 12/04/2019 21:38

Aw just been hugging my little old dog who we got when youngest dd was 3 and she’s now 13. Our little dog has got a white beard now and I’m thinking more and more whatever will I do when she dies. Can’t bear the thought.

BusySittingDown · 12/04/2019 21:39

Although mine isn't a lab, she's a terror. Oops, I mean terrier Grin.

Retrievers are my favourite dogs though. They're just so beautiful.

PinaColadaPlease · 12/04/2019 22:00

We have a chocolate lab as well, also greying! I absolutely adore him, he just makes me melt (as do most labs to be honest).

I love spending time with him and love walking him as he just looks so happy to be out and about!

He is an absolute joy, can’t imagine being without him.

Brigante9 · 12/04/2019 22:17

Because they don't judge, they love unconditionally and they're gorgeous real life teddy bears.
