Do you decorate a room with Easter things for the kids?

OP posts:
user1494055864 · 12/04/2019 20:29

Yes I do! I also buy mini eggs in foil, mini bunnies in net bags, and hide them around the house. My teen dd asked me the other day if I would be doing an egg hunt, and I said yes, and she looked so pleased! I know lots of people don't bother, but for me I think that's what fun childhood memories are all about.

ohyesohyessyyesyes · 12/04/2019 20:31

No. I try not to generate unnecessary waste or buy things we don’t need. We’re not mega skint but I am trying to instill good habits in my kids and make them aware that plastic tat is just awful for the environment.

formerbabe · 12/04/2019 20:32

No.

Ffs, are we meant to be doing this?!

I hide eggs round the house...what more do you need?!

Bringbackthestripes · 12/04/2019 20:34

Nope. I just hide a couple of Easter eggs.

Welliesandpyjamas · 12/04/2019 20:37

What, like Christmas but in pastel with bunnies and eggs??
No

They get an easter egg and a little egg hunt in the garden. Church service with school.

Anything else sounds like a show and a lot of pressure to put on a display.

ParisWilton · 12/04/2019 20:37

No don't be ridiculous. I'm pmsl at all the Easter decorations (especially trees 🙄) which are slowly filtering through when scrolling on Instagram I have no life

Welliesandpyjamas · 12/04/2019 20:37

What would Jesus do?

user1494055864 · 12/04/2019 20:37

Just to add, (for all the joyless miseries on mumsnet), my decorations are not plastic tat, and are stored in the loft, and re-used every year, just like my Halloween and Christmas decs are.

Langrish · 12/04/2019 20:38

No, why on earth would we do that? More money 🙄

formerbabe · 12/04/2019 20:38

Easter decorations..Shock..ain't nobody got time for that!!!

Stuckforthefourthtime · 12/04/2019 20:43

Who keeps coming up with all these new events that mothers (and only mothers) seem to have the make magical and celebratory?

No way. We blow eggs if we get ourselves organised in time. The DCs wake up to find a message from the Easter bunny with eggs hidden around the garden (if sunny) or house (if rainy). We eat hot cross buns. We go to an Easter church service. We eat more hot cross buns. Easter is then done.

CMOTDibbler · 12/04/2019 20:47

Nope. We buy ds an egg (he has chosen a Lindor one) and thats all the poor wee mite gets

Twickerhun · 12/04/2019 20:49

No- and if I did I wouldn’t decorate until after Easter - you celebrate Easter after Jesus rose from the dead. You wouldn’t decorate before Easter Sunday. - very bad taste.

happypotamus · 12/04/2019 20:55

No, I don't have time in my life for that. I put up cards and things they have made at school but don't do any specific decorating.

PhillipeFellope · 12/04/2019 21:07

I've got a few Easter decorations that I'll put up (reusable) but ds gets Easter presents and eggs aswell and that's probably not usual. But we always had them as children and i'll continue it with mine.

PhillipeFellope · 12/04/2019 21:09

Should clarify, the "decorating" will be done for DS to wake up to on Easter Sunday. And we will go to church.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 12/04/2019 21:09

No never. As much as I love the magic of Christmas I do share the love for Easter. They get an egg each and we enjoy the weekend - if we visit grandparents they might get an egg hunt.

GlowWine · 12/04/2019 21:11

Yes. it's a (German) tradition that I'm trying to keep up for my family. just a few branches with eggs though, no 'room' decorations. Here is last year's effort.

AlbertWinestein · 12/04/2019 21:16

That’s too American. And I AM American.

ohyesohyessyyesyes · 12/04/2019 21:16

Sorry but just had to pick up that wanting to care for the environment and teach kids to do the same does not necessarily make one a ‘joyless misery’ user1494055864. In fact, I am so full of joy of the world, I would like my kids and their kids to experience it too. Well done for using your decs year upon year. Foil and net bags are not great though...

Elflocks · 13/04/2019 12:35

No, dc get 3 chocolate eggs from family - One from my mum, one from FIL and one from MIL. We get them a big bar of chocolate, and that is as far as it goes with Easter in our house.

eyore123 · 13/04/2019 12:37

No - i decorate a room with Easter stuff for me. I love holidays and have a box full of Easter decorations I bring out every year. I hope the children like it.

Calzone · 13/04/2019 12:39

‘What would Jesus do?’ had me howling Wellies 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not sure Jesus had chocolate or lickle Easter chicks.....

Such a lot of tosh.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/04/2019 12:41

This x's 100. You definitely do NOT celebrate Easter on good Friday.
