Best state secondary schools in East Sussex

I’ve heard a lot of people say that you should buy your forever house close to the best secondary school not primary when you have DC so they can walk there and back alone. So based on that who lives near a great secondary school in East Sussex?

Wadhurst seems to be quite good. DH's niece went there and ended up at Cambridge.

Cardinal Newman, Dorothy Stringer, and Vardean are all good in Brighton.
St Paul’s College is good in Burgess Hill (is that West Sussex?)

My DS is 3! My best mate has a DD in year 4 or 5 though and is currently thinking about it all...whether to move house or start attending church.

Claverham in Battle has a pretty good reputation locally I think ( although I haven’t lived down that way for years )

Schools change A LOT - not sure how old your dc are but the secondary that my ds went to (was first choice) as the 'over my dead body' school when he was 6/7. A new Head turned the school around and it very quickly became oversubscribed (not Sussex though so maybe not helpful although I have many friends in Brighton - and they used to operate a lottery rather than distance criteria, so many moved out to Steyning)
