Is this sort of tiredness worth a visit to the GP?

I struggle to sleep and always have, but I can function quite well on not much sleep.

Recently these fugs of tiredness have been coming over me like a wave. That's the best way I can describe it. They make me feel exhausted. I had one yesterday and genuinely didn't feel capable of driving.

My MIL said I could be diabetic or anemic, but I eat well.

I eat well but heavy periods made me anemic. It's definitely worth seeing your GP.

Definitely get it checked. Could be iron, B12, thyroid or something else. Whichever (or none of the above) some basic blood tests will either put your mind at ease or help you to start dealing with any deficiencies. BrewCake

I'll make an appointment, I wasn't sure if they'd laugh me out of the place and say no wonder you're tired, you just don't sleep!

I was tested for lots. I've got ridiculously low vitamin D too, so you never know what it is.

I’d get it checked. I had this last summer after giving blood. I felt exhausted and like I couldn’t keep my eyes open. Then I’d be ok and manage a long session at the gym, but a day or so later I’d be asleep on the sofa at 7pm. Blood test confirmed anaemia and I had a course of iron tablets. I now try to eat an iron rich diet and take a multivitamin but I’m starting to get the waves of tiredness again so back to the GP for more tests soon.

Vitamin d deficiency www.mumsnet.com/Talk/general_health/2095747-Vitamin-d-deficiency

This is a very informative thread. Bettertobehealthy knows their stuff.

For me VitD deficit feels like I'm tired in my brain or the back of my head. I feel as tired after a good night as at any other time.

grannysvase · 12/04/2019 19:13

Hmmm. It's not a consistent tiredness, it definitely comes in waves and it's my whole body as well as a brain fug.

It was low iron for me, wish I had gone sooner

Also get your thyroid checked. Look up hypothyroidism up to see if anything else matches.

I am very very tired and DH suggested a while ago that I went to the Gp and asked for blood tests to see if I was deficient in anything. I thought that was ridiculous and put my exhaustion down to working a combination of long day and night shifts every week in a busy, stressful job and having a child who wakes me up most nights so I never get a full night's sleep. I went to the Gp when my manager also suggested because I wasn't coping at work, and it turned out that I had a really low vitamin D level. After taking high dose vitamin D for several weeks, I still don't know if my tiredness is due to poor sleep or lack of vitamin D, but my Gp certainly didn't laugh at the suggestion of doing some blood tests to check iron levels, thyroid and vitamin levels as well as some other stuff.

The brain fog points to B12 id ask for all to be tested. However I am the same and some days cant even get words out properly however have had numerous bloods and nothing! But my iron was on the low side of 'normal' so i take multi vit with iron. I started tracking my sleep and am basically always in a light sleep waking hourly which i sort of knew but didnt realise it was that broken so feel like its a big cause of mine.

Low iron for me too, extremely low. And I thought I are really well!
