Any dentists/dental nurses around? Had a wisdom tooth out about 2 hours ago. In pain now. They said not to disturb the clot - is it safe to have water and painkillers?

Hell yes! Get the painkillers and water!!!!

OldAndWornOut · 12/04/2019 15:49

I used to be a dental nurse. (Back when I had teeth!)

If you've a straw it might be best to try and use just the good side of your mouth, for now.

DO NOT use a straw Hmm
Yes of course have water and painkillers, but tepid water, not cold straight from the tap. No extreme hot or cold liquid for a few days.

I was told no to straws as it can disturb the clot

Hope it eases for you soon x

No straws, sips not gulps, and room temperature water.

Use a straw, FFS. A dental nurse would know better than that Hmm

I said I used to be one.
Keep your hair on!

This. I hope it heals up nicely!

Then maybe don't go offering bad dental advice that could cause the OP unnecessary complications when your knowledge clearly isn't up to date then? Using a straw can loosen the clot and increase the risk of dry socket.

ArtichokeAardvark · 12/04/2019 16:09

I just had a tooth out and was recommended to use a straw by the dentist. If you direct it away from the clot, why is it a problem? Easier to manage too when your jaw is still frozen up.

Ewitsahooman · 12/04/2019 16:09

OP, if you have a jug or empty bottle then fill it up and leave on the kitchen counter so you have water ready for later too.

OldAndWornOut · 12/04/2019 16:10

As above Smile
