A few questions if you went plant based/vegetarian or vegan.

Did you save money?

I'm hoping to go 80% plant based and work towards being vegan. I'm doing it for animal welfare/environmental and health reasons, but saving money would be a very nice added bonus. I'm not a fan of meat substitutes so I'm not anticipating eating too many of those, just hopefully mainfully whole foods, though due to disabilities I'll also have to buy some things ready made.

Also how do you meal plan? It seems so easy to choose a meat or fish and throw some vegetables on the side but it seems harder with vegetable based dishes. Do you meal plan or do you just throw something together on the day?

TIA

I went vegan 7 years ago, yes it is cheaper but not a huge amount as I buy lots more fruit and veg now. I meal plan at least 2 weeks ahead, usually 4 weeks at a time. I don't use a lot of fake meat, maybe once a week and usually LM sausages. I use a lot of lentils and pulses but don't make meat two veg type of meals. It's all second nature to me now, I rarely buy ready-made as none come close to anything I make myself, eg curries.

I also have a disability and due to the very toxic drug I am taking I have a full blood panel done every few weeks and I have never been deficient in anything, all bloods good etc but I do eat a very balanced vegan diet. I hope that helps.

Vegan for 5 years. I would save money if I didn’t waste so much fruit and veg, I can’t seem to keep it fresh, but yes on the whole just not eating cake and chocolate saved me about a tenner a week!!

This is very helpful. Thank you all so much. It'd be a nice added bonus if I could save some money. I'll see about having my bloods checked once I become vegan too.

Went vegetarian a year ago, haven't seen any difference in the cost unfortunately!
