I am looking to book a trip to New York. Have you ever been? What's the best way to book? I want to find a decent place to stay but not spend 1000's. Any recommendations?

Have a look at Queens- Long Island City and Astoria will get you to Times Square etc pretty quick but you won't be paying Manhatten hotel prices.

When you're booking a hotel, keep an eye out for destination fees and city taxes not included in the room rate. That can be a frustrating surprise.

For flights, Norwegian have very good prices and fly to New York from the UK. You can save a lot there, especially if you can be flexible with dates.

The Pod Hotels are really good value

Airbnb was half the price of hotels when I was last there a few years ago, meant we could afford to stay in Manhattan

NYC is fabulous, We were there in Jan, so very very cold, but very beautiful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment in SOHO. Perfect location for getting around. We booked ours through Booking.com
