I have to go to a big work event tomorrow with lots of opportunities for internal networking. I will probably know about half of the people there, but don't know many of them well at all.
I dread the bits where we have to mingle over coffee/lunch. I never have any idea about how to approach people, who to approach or what to say to them. Also don't know how long to spend talking to one person and when to move on.
This kind of event has always really freaked me out. I get so anxious about looking like an idiot or standing there on my own like billy no-mates. Everyone else always seems to mingle so easily.
I have to go anyway, so I could really do with some good strategies. Please share your best tips with me for how to work the room at that kind of event!
