So tomorrow I can get seats for either. Going with DH and DS age14. So undecided DS says thriller but he hasnt read up.on Jamie so doesnt know what it's about so keeps saying no...but I really think he will like Jamie!

So any help lovely Mumsnetters who have seen both?

Probably not thriller given all the recent allegations

HairyPotter · 10/04/2019 18:12

I’ve seen both, not overly fussed about either if I’m being honest. That said, I’ve heard the new lead in Jamie is very good so would probably plump for that.

danahnahnahnah · 10/04/2019 18:14

I hated Thriller. You have to be a big Michael Jackson fan. It's a performance and history lesson, rather than a show with a story line.

I haven't heard of Everyones talking about Jamie though.

pontiouspilates · 10/04/2019 18:17

Jamie is good fun. Wouldnt bother with Thriller.

violeticecream · 10/04/2019 18:25

Jamie is brilliant! Saw it in feb. My daughters saw it again last weekend with the new cast and said it was fantastic. My daughter is going for a 3rd time in a couple of weeks!

violeticecream · 10/04/2019 18:27

Just to say my daughters are 14 and 12 so your ds should like it.

youarenotkiddingme · 10/04/2019 18:32

I've recently discovered Jamie ...... and have watched bits on tube and been listening to the songs.

That's what I'd choose!

Overseasmom100 · 10/04/2019 18:35

Or Hamilton have the chance to see that as well

I went to see Jamie for a birthday treat from a friend so had no idea what it was about or had any expectations. I really enjoyed it-great storyline, music and actors. A real feel good night out.
I've not seen Thriller so can't comment on that.

snookerloopynutsarewe · 10/04/2019 18:39

Hamilton is absolutely brilliant but personally I think you need to have listened to the soundtrack first to help make sense of what's going on.

tkband3 · 10/04/2019 18:40

Hamilton all the way!!

Having said that, I wouldn't have gone to see Thriller even before all the recent allegations as I'm not a Michael Jackson fan but there's no way I'd go now. And we have tickets to see Jamie in June. But we saw Hamilton last year and it is absolutely amazing - given the choice I'd see that again!

Overseasmom100 · 10/04/2019 18:48

i think I might go for Jamie as there's a story and music and DS will I think enjoy more. Hamilton not too sure about all the rapping!

OP posts:
Good0mens · 10/04/2019 18:57

Definitely Hamilton.

Overseasmom100 · 10/04/2019 19:09

Sell me Hamilton...Just briefly read rapping story about US presidents?

worriedbutexcited · 10/04/2019 19:13

I’ve not seen Hamilton but would absolutely love to!! The soundtrack is amazing and it seems like a really good storySmile

BurrSir · 10/04/2019 19:15

You have to see Hamilton if you have the chance. I saw it for the second time last week. Simply amazing. As someone said you might want to listen to the music before hand though. I did think I got more from the show the second time knowing the story better.

Overseasmom100 · 10/04/2019 20:08

Rapping doesnt appeal to me ...not sure DS would either...soooo undecided!

NuffSaidSam · 10/04/2019 20:11

I haven't seen Thriller or Hamilton, but Jamie is brilliant.

Bufferingkisses · 10/04/2019 20:12

Jamie is excellent imho. I did shed a tear though Grin

ketchupormayo · 10/04/2019 20:13

Thriller is absolutely fantastic!

daffydowndilys · 10/04/2019 20:15

Thriller was rubbish!!

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 10/04/2019 22:14

Absolutely go and see Hamilton if possible! I was very skeptical and the premise seemed a bit out there for me (a rap/hip hop musical) but it totally blew me away. It is not hardcore rap but rather quick witted, clever rhyming couplets in a softer mainstream rap style. The harmonies and quality of the vocals was brilliant all the while telling the interesting storey of Alexander Hamilton.

Everyone's Talking about Jamie was also good and is a close second choice. It has heartache and comedy with good songs. It tackles the subject of a boy tackling prejudice of over his sexuality and his dreams of becoming a drag queen. It tackles bullying and the impact of parental rejection by his dad but also celebrates individuality and freedom to fearlessly pursue your dreams.

Thriller would be a no for me.

MountPheasant · 10/04/2019 22:16

Jamie was fun and worth seeing.

Hamilton is mind blowing. And I hate rap.

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 10/04/2019 22:17

Sorry about the excessive use of the word tackle in my above review of Jamie Blush

MintyCedric · 10/04/2019 22:20

I've heard great things about Jamie and my friend's daughter works on the show so I'm a bit biased.

I know one or two people who have seen Hamilton and become completely obsessed, so I guess it must be good...
