Diffuser recommendations please!

I'm having a family do at my house and I want to scent(?) four rooms so don't want to spend too much on each diffuser!

Ideally I want my home to smell like a posh hotel. I like woody, ambery smells, patchouli etc, like men's aftershave. Nothing powdery or flowery.

I was going to get some from Aldi but saw on here that they don't smell of much/smell vile! I don't like plug ins.

Recommendations please for around £5 each? Smile

I've tried the Aldi ones, and think the Lime, Basil & Mandarin one is the best by far.

I can always smell it, no matter how large a room it's in and currently have a few dotted round the house so would definitely recommend.

Are they large spaces you're putting them in?

I've found cheaper ones such as Baylis & Harding, Next etc don't tend to be that noticeable.

Could scented candles be an option?

Another Aldi vote here - they look really good, I've got the pomegranate and something one just now, but the lime and basil before was great too.

Have you got a Dunelm near you? They have lots and display ones which you can sniff!

Alternatively you could buy a cheapo one and throw away the oil and buy fragrance oil separately to use with the sticks.

I buy these in all different fragrances. This is the linen one, but you can search for a fragrance you prefer

I got one (raspberry and apple) in primark and was awed as only £3. Smells lovely and lasted well

Fox and Ivy at Tesco do amazing ones. There's Amber and Topaz. A Sapphire one and a few others. Not powdery or floral at all and they look great. Small ones are £5. Large are £12- but really are worth it.

Yes, definitely get thee to Dunelm and sniff the display ones. They have quite a wide range of fragrances.

Thanks for your suggestions!

They're not large spaces no, and I could use candles but I've never used any that really smelled of much when lit! It's a daytime party so I'd rather use diffusers I think, but would consider candles if they actually had a good scent.

I had forgotten about Tesco so thanks for reminding me- as I recall I did like their home fragrances when I had a sniff in store! Their website is utterly hopeless though, I've been trying to view the Fox and Ivy diffusers without success. I will have to pop in - and to Dunelm, there's one not too far from me. I've sniffed Primark stuff before and not liked them, if I recall they were quite flowery?

I might try an Aldi one this week when I get my groceries, it's not too much to lose if I don't like it.

My favourite smell is Amber Noir by Shearer, I have a diffuser and candles, but unfortunately they don't smell unless you lean over and have a good sniff. It's maddening because if there's a product I don't like the smell of you can guarantee it will fill the air with a lasting pong even when I've tried to get rid of it! I've tried a multitude of oil in the burner like this.

The nicest one I've smelt is Sanctuary Spa diffuser.

Dunelm sell Wax Lyrical and they last. Smelled lovely ones in Matalan the other day and they were delicious! On my list to buy.

BiggFactHunt · 11/04/2019 10:48

This is the best one I’ve ever had, not cheap unfortunately (£25) but has lasted months and smells really nice. Can smell it from my front room and it’s in the hallway.

Diffuser recommendations please!

Oh heck I want to smell all of these now!

How has scratch 'n' sniff never taken off? Companies could post out catalogues of scents for us to try!
