Stinky Vans - chuck or try and save

DDs Vans (footwear) are incredibly smelly - I dispair as they cost so much money and I really can't afford to replace them if they aren't actually outgrown.

Burn or save? Will they go in the washing machine or is there any other sorcery that I can use to make them smell pretty again?

Chuck them in the washing machine. Put them on the radiator after stuffed with newspaper.
My teenage trainers were vom inducing.

I put mine in the washing machine.

Putting teabags in them also magically sucks out smells.

Can you get some new insoles? Try a layer of bicarb too, sucks up most smells. Leave it in for a good while then hoover out.

PS - I'd get charcoal insoles and remove weekly to wash.

Put them in the washing machine, gentle wash, in an old pillowcase would be my advice. If you're on the point of burning them, nothing to be lost IMHO.

Nah, don’t chuck them out, Vans are expensive.
Soak in bicarbonate, or just sprinkle it in and leave a while.
Stick the shoes in the washing machine (if you’d chuck them out anyway it’s surely worth the risk)
Get some odour eating insoles.
Spray with febreze and/or deodorant.

I wear Vans to cycle in so they can get very smelly. I just bung them in the washing machine.

amusedbush · 10/04/2019 13:49

My Vans STINK Blush I'm so glad it's not just me!

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 10/04/2019 13:50

Also the owner of stinky Vans here.

Olbaaa · 10/04/2019 13:54

I wash my vans in the washing machine, I just do them the same as my other trainers, in a load with mostly towels/hoodies/something else thick and heavy to hold them roughly in place!

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 10/04/2019 13:54

Defo washing machine. My feet were so rank as a kid.

tardyheart · 10/04/2019 14:04

Try a capfull of Zoflora tipped in the toe end and then put through a 40 degree washing machine cycle.

I tried this with my stinky running trainers last week & it seems to have worked. Dried them on a radiator- spring fresh now!

justforareply · 10/04/2019 14:08

Wash in machine with towels etc as others said BUT do lower the spin speed!! Think 600 my lowest
Otherwise you end up with banana shoes

outpinked · 10/04/2019 14:15

I wash mine in the machine on a low heat, they’re fine.

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 10/04/2019 16:34

Also, when they’re wet after washing, stuff paper or something into them - the toes at least - so they dry a good shape.
