Just back from an Aldi trip and my verdict on the rhubarb and custard ones: meh. I think I'll stick to traditional ones.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 09/04/2019 16:48

Co-op do good traditional ones.

17caterpillars1mouse · 09/04/2019 16:53

Marks and spencers blueberry ones. Oh how I love them

AnnaNutherThing · 09/04/2019 16:57

For palm oil free:

No advice for shop bought I'm afraid.
However I'm not a great cook but I found basic hot cross buns easy to make and nicer than bought, so worth it imo.

UnusualBluePenguin · 09/04/2019 16:59

Just had a delicious hot cross (cream) scone at my local garden centre.

onlyhereforthefood · 09/04/2019 19:14

Aldi rhubarb and custard were good, but I do prefer a traditional bun- Sainsburys taste the difference ones are fab!

NorrieTheMouse · 09/04/2019 19:20

Does anyone have a recipe for really sticky hot cross buns? Looking for something more like M&S ones than fresh bakery ones.

catinboots99 · 09/04/2019 19:45

What is Booths?

The M&S chocolate chip and fudge ones - used to do massive ones the size of dinner plates last year, this year they seem to have disappeared!

bruffin · 09/04/2019 19:50

Waitrose cranberry and orange are lovely

BertrandRussell · 09/04/2019 19:50

NoParticularPattern · 09/04/2019 19:52

WHAT?! There are RHUBARB AND CUSTARD hot cross buns?! This should be on the national bloody news. Why are they not telling this to all of the people?!

NoParticularPattern · 09/04/2019 19:52

Also the Lidl luxury ones are good

NoParticularPattern · 09/04/2019 19:53

And “rhubarb” doesn’t look right in capitals Hmm

Doje · 09/04/2019 19:56

Home made all the way!

Morrisons chocolate ones. I'm bunbedextrious. Except for peel. That can bugger off.

Stravapalava · 09/04/2019 19:57

Another vote for the rhubarb and custard ones!

I've got blueberry and maple syrup and white choc & raspberry ones coming in the online shop tomorrow so I will report back!

BertrandRussell · 09/04/2019 19:57

Hot Cross Bun recipe
It says add sourdough starter- but you can ignore that and put a bit more liquid. They are soooo good!

Yes, rhubarb and custard from Aldi are amazing.

troppibambini · 09/04/2019 19:59

Watching with interest I love a good bun.
Booths is a really really nice supermarket we have oop north think Waitrose but a million times better.

BlueMerchant · 09/04/2019 20:02

Traditional all the way.
I'd feel dirty picking up anything else.
Rhubarb...in a hot cross bun...it's mad!Shock
It's Tesco finest Traditional for me.

thefirstmrsrochester · 09/04/2019 20:02

The M&S apple and cinnamon ones are divine. With butter, without butter, hot or cold. Not generally a fan of hot cross buns.

moonfacebaby · 09/04/2019 20:04

Aldi’s Luxury brioche ones are amazing - I can’t stop eating them!

yearinyearout · 09/04/2019 20:17

Omg rhubarb and custard? Is there actual custard in them!? Sounds a dream come true for me ❤️

SoMuchToBits · 09/04/2019 20:20

Doje, the home made ones look lovely! Otherwise I would recommend Victoria's bakery, Ipswich.
