I still want her to look like a little girl though.

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-heirloom-collection-girls'-half-lace-dress-light-blue/p4081399?size=7+yrs This was an absolute flat out no from her.

She liked that one slightly more.

I should add that the bridal party are in pink so another colour would be preferable.

The first one looks like a bridesmaid's dress to me, which would be a no.

I would just put her in something smart, a nice top with a pretty skirt would be fine, even smart trousers with a nice blouse. When we were kids we always wore our own clothes to weddings, we didn't buy anything new for them.

Blondielongie · 08/04/2019 22:13

What does she have in mind? I wouldn't have wanted to wear those at that age. I'd rather be in trousers. I love dresses now I'm grown up though.

My DD is wearing a Lindy bop dress to a wedding soon. A bit like this but not black. It’s nicer on.

Monsoon used to have some lovely dresses for children that age. Is she too young for New Look dresses?

dontticklethetoad · 08/04/2019 22:16

At 8 I would let my daughter choose from a selection. Ideally taking her to the shops to look and try on.

navyismycolour · 08/04/2019 22:18

Part of the problem is that she doesn't know what she's looking for- this bodes well for the teen years Shock Grin

I'm a bit stumped about where to look for her. I get her casual clothes in Next, Tesco or Sainsbury's. She's really never complained about clothes so I'd like to get her something she'd like now.

If she's really not wating a dress what about this jumpsuit it looks little-girlie but could look very nice.

Or if she wants a dress that's a bit more grown up I quite like this one.

And when I was looking I liked this one too unicorn dress It's simple, but might appeal.

MoreSlidingDoors · 08/04/2019 22:21

Mine has gone for a navy blue jumpsuit with lace on it.

mnahmnah · 08/04/2019 22:21

Any of these suitable? All online at Next. Still pretty, girly but older looking than some ‘little girl’ dresses

I got my dd(8) a dress from Monsoon - very similar to your second dress in the style wise but she had different colours Smile

navyismycolour · 08/04/2019 22:24

Hmmm, none of those Monsoon ones are right, although I'll show her them in the morning.

I like the lilac Next one.

Culottes have added advantage of facilitating cartwheels at reception. Because I’ll bet she’s not grown out of them... 😀

crumble82 · 08/04/2019 22:33

Boden have some beautiful party dresses in at the moment.

Notcontent · 08/04/2019 22:36

How about something like this:

navyismycolour · 08/04/2019 22:36

Sadly she's taken after her mother and can't cartwheel to save her life! She likes a boogie though.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the design and price of the Ted Baker clothes- I'm going to keep an eye on the sale as we've a few weddings coming up in the next few months. I'd never have thought to look there.
