How many days in Venice?

Would two nights be enough? Arriving 10am and leaving 9pm on the last day?

Or three nights?

Booking as a present for OH birthday and don’t want to ask him as it’s a surprise.

2 is perfectly fine. There would be plenty to see and do for three days though, especially if you want to go and see one of the islands.

I think any more and I'd feel claustrophobic!

We did the standard Day trip and I would have liked to have been there when most of the day trippers had left, or early morning and I would have liked to have had time to see in the Basilica, but that is all I didn't get to do so yes I think 2 nights would be ample.

I did 3 nights but 2 was enough 🙂 it’s a lovely city

Thanks, I booked 3 nights in the end.

Now to research and plan Grin

We did 3 nights and it was wonderful. I could have stayed longer. We mostly avoided the St Mark's Square area - just went there briefly to tour the Doges Palace - and instead spent a lot of time just getting lost in back streets. If we'd stayed longer we'd have visited Murano, and maybe had a ride in a gondola but mostly would have just eaten more pasta, and spent yet more time sitting outside cafes.

Burano's also worth a visit, if you head out into the lagoon.
