That people are generally nastier and less tolerant than 10-20 years ago? I read things on here and think that would not remotely bother me but prole seem to get themselves in a twist about it

Yes.

People have much more money than before but buy more stuff to keep up with everyone else and that has produced envy, jealousy and greed in society.

People are definitely more petty today.

Also, everyone seems to be in a rush or can’t cope with everyday life. I’m not knocking anyone with mental health problems, but an awful lot of people cannot cope.

We have all the labour saving devices under the sun that our parents and grandparents didn’t have yet they were able to cope with running a home and raising children without moaning.

I think it's easier to hear about nasty intolerant people... the comments section of the local newspaper certainly attracts hoards of them!

Because we are constantly able to communicate, there is a greater expectation that we should. It is difficult to disconnect, mooch around and have a bit of mental piece. Our brains have too much to do, too much expectation and too little time to rest. There isn't much enforced patience anymore, even something like waiting in a queue.

I don't think people are worse than they were, but they are more pressured whether that is external or internalised.

On the whole I think society and mainstream media is less racist, homophobic, and generally intolerant. However, recession, overcrowding and hyper capitalism has encouraged the cult of the individual which has led to self-absorbed and selfish behaviour being celebrated and normalised. Sweeping generalisations of course!

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 08/04/2019 22:25

No I don't think so.

People seem very brash now and somewhat intolerant. They also have a heightened sense of entitlement.

I also think people are more neurotic and immature these days. I think social media causes people to be very competitive, even if it's competitive feebleness.
