Best easy way to start low carb without missing snacks

Posting here for traffic.

I need to lose some weight and thought I'd try low carb.

I'm happy with omelettes for breakfast, meat and veg for dinner without carbs, but what can I snack on? I'm on a tight budget too so can't buy smoked salmon for example. No Aldi nearby, I shop online from tesco. I'm not a great cook so be gentle please Blush

Olives

Cheese cubes

Nuts

Batsypatsy · 08/04/2019 16:59

I've got cheese and Brazil nuts, hadn't thought of olives, good idea.

Hard boiled eggs. Cook a load and keep them in the fridge/take out with you.

We have ham and chicken in spices ( I cook and shred whatever is on offer) in baby gem leaves. Eggs, nuts, dark chocolate with coffee, peanut butter and celery or apple if eating moderate carbs. Sugar free jelly

formerbabe · 08/04/2019 17:10

Cocktail sausages...but check the ingredients because some have carby fillers

SmallFastPenguin · 08/04/2019 17:10

Kale crisps and salami crisps

CatToddlerUprising · 08/04/2019 17:12

Baby bells, cheese strings, Brazil nuts, sugar free jelly and double cream

CatToddlerUprising · 08/04/2019 17:13

80% plus dark chocolate. Melt it down, dip strawberries in them and set in the fridge

Batsypatsy · 08/04/2019 17:41

I can't stand hard boiled eggs Envy (Not envy!)

I'm staying away from chocolate of all sorts, I have no off switch.

I don't like sweetener so no sugar free jelly.

Cocktail sausages, Babybels, celery (can I have cream cheese with it?) sound good.

Salami crisps? Is that baked slices of salami?

Thanks Smile

Cream cheese, Camembert etc all fine. No milk though. I use double cream in coffee. Tuna and full fat mayo. Cook/grill Edam slices cut into triangles- use like tortillas for dipping into guacamole/sour cream and chive dips.

Greek yoghurt, kale crisps, ham and cream cheese roll-ups

Batsypatsy · 08/04/2019 18:54

Thanks Smile

I can't have peanut butter either - No off switch! Grin

I'm just putting in my order for tomorrow so I'll include some of these.

Boost your protein intake for your meals and stop the snacks!

You shouldn't need to snack and getting used to feeling hungry helps you appreciate your meals more and will really help you lose weight. It does get easier the more you do it.

One of the magic things about low carbing is that you don’t crave snacks!

Batsypatsy · 08/04/2019 19:01

Yes I understand that. I just think at first I'll fail if I've nothing snacky in the house and I really want to stick with it.

I just started low carb and was thinking of quitting snacks altogether as woman I work with never snacks (looks amazing)

Can we have diet coke or is that best avoided ?

MitziK · 08/04/2019 19:04

Meat. Cook up chicken, turkey, pork, etc, allow to cool and slice, put in fridge.

Lots of it.

Plus olives and lots of other savoury things, such as artichokes in lemon, sundried tomatoes, mozzarella balls, etc.

Lots of chilled water.

Chilledout11 · 08/04/2019 19:04

Slices of ham

CatToddlerUprising · 08/04/2019 19:07

You can have Diet Coke but Coke Zero is better. It depends on how strict low carb you’re doing e.g clean Keto, or more dirty/lazy Keto (as a guide- low carb doesn’t necessarily mean Keto)

But you will crave carbs if you have none at all. So include potatoes, sweet potatoes and emergency bananas.

I did it completely for a few weeks. Wouldn't even eat fruit or high carb veg (I fell for the 'cleanse'/'sugar detox' shit). Lots of headaches and, on the last day, I thought I was probably OK to have a low sugar cereal bar.

Fuck me, I didn't stop eating for three days. And utter shit, every last bit of it.

Absolute bollocks. I’ve been low carbing for the best part of 10 years. Do it right and you will feel ill at the thought of carbs, not crave them.

That’s what happens when you haven’t a clue what you’re doing.

managedmis · 08/04/2019 20:30

Veg soup
Cottage cheese
Veg sticks with dip

Batsypatsy · 08/04/2019 21:27

I'm not bothered about fizzy drinks, I usually drink black decaff coffee and water, I've got the twinings infused water, there's no sugar in it so hopefully it's ok.

I'm cutting out potatoes, bananas, anything carby . I'll have a few raspberries in my natural yoghurt maybe though.

I'm not bothered about going into keto but do need to lose a couple of stone, and stop eating junk! I'm happy to lose very slowly though. Can I still lose if I don't go into keto?

There are LOADS of ideas on there

If you get a headache when cutting out carbs, that’s ‘good’ as you are successfully withdrawing. But then TAKE ELECTROLYTES
