Anyone have a relatively new Miele washing macnine - one that uses capsules?

My washing machine has died and I need to replace it ASAP. Because of the layout of my utility room it has to be another Miele because, I think, they’re the only ones with the hinge on the right hand side.

However my current machine just uses normal washing powder. It seems like all the new ones use some special capsules that can only be bought from Miele or Amazon.

Do they clean well? Does it cost a fortune? Is there a way round it that doesn’t invalidate the warranty?

We do about 2 loads a day (lots of muddy gardening, dog walking, sport) and I have eczema and so always use Fairy powder.

Can't you change the hinge of the door on most washing machines, so that it opens either way?

The man at my local appliance store said you couldn’t any more and looked at me like I was crazy. Definitely remember doing so on a Zanussi machine years ago.

Happy to be proved wrong!

This link www.appliancecity.co.uk/news/updates/a-buyers-guide-to-the-new-miele-w1-and-t1-appliances/ suggests you get empty capsules that you can fill with any detergent. Maybe check that's still the case?

All my machines have had the hinges on the right. Having said that we have a Miele (3 years old). You can use the capsules but you don't have to. I got a couple of free ones with mine but haven't bothered with any more. You could put the powder/liquid straight in the drum, which some say is better anyway. I'm sure you don't have to use the capsules though?

I can’t help with the hinge issue but I have a relatively new Miele and you don’t have to use their capsules. It does have a slot for them in the drawer but I put the powder in the drawer along with softener and whatever else I need and it works fine.

Appliance city were super helpful. They too said I can put normal powder in the drawer or drum.

Thanks all!

this is freakishly weird as we bought a new washer in late Jan, not miele sorry, was delivered installed early Feb., about a week ago was moaning to dh I hate fact the washer and dryer doors both open same way, hadn't been something I considered when buying and isn't something I knew could be changed, as I have them side by side in small space so I have to unload one shut door move laundry then open other door, so yesterday my dh just changed the door around so it is still possible for some machines at least
