Pans for induction hob

A bit boring but I’ve just purchased a lovely Neff induction hob and I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a decent set of pans please? Also tips for cleaning it; do I need a scraper for spills? I’ve not used induction before I’m hoping I don’t regret not going for gas!

No scraper for spillls needed. Just clean as you go - even mid cooking ;) sooo much better than gas!

I have a stainless steel set from le Creuset I really like.

Mine are a basic stainless steel set from John Lewis. Had them before we got the hob.

You can buy special cleaner for induction hobs and I use it occasionally. Usually just use Method surface spray.

I use Method spray and a microfibre cloth then buff with a dry cloth.

Thanks everyone I’ll check out the method spray. Can I ask those with stainless steel pans did you get Teflon coated pans? I’ve fallen into a black hole of pan reviews and am going round in circles.

Our saucepans are just stainless steel but frying pans are Teflon. We did find that some that were supposed to work on induction didn’t. DH ordered some Jamie Oliver ones from ProCook and he reckons they have been the best we’ve had.

We have le creuset and love them. Induction is great! The pans are stainless steel and our frying pan is Teflon coated. You can often get deals on sets at an outlet or sometimes John Lewis do them.

My saucepans aren't teflon coated and have stood up well so far, I have burned things in them but a soak and a scrub and they have come up like new.

We've Morrison's cheap stainless pans and 5 years on they are good as new. Bought in a hurry when we moved in to new house and old ones didn't work on new job.

Bought all mine from Ikea. Only non-stick pans I bought are frying pans.

Mine are Circulon all non stick - love my induction hood. Just wipe with a dishcloth and it’s clean.

We were recommended IKEA ones when we had our latest induction hob fitted (having had them in previous houses) and so bought a frying pan from there to try it. AMAZING! We don’t need anything else, but if we did I’d happliy have all IKEA now. Just as good as our lovely Le Creuset bits.

We switched to induction about 3 years ago and continued to use our existing Tefal saucepans, as they are induction suitable.

We had to buy new frying pans, and got those from Ikea - these. Decent quality for the price.

I also got a small 'stone' stock pot from Asda that is non stick but not teflon and this is great for curries etc - anything that needs meat and onions browning, but you don't want to use loads of oil.

The neff lady told us to avoid anything with ridges etc on the bottom of the pans (on the outside) you want a nice smooth bottom (!) for contact with the hob to be most efficient- we actually got a free set with ours (they're on amazon if you search for neff pans) and they are excellent made by Schulte-Ufer.

Can’t believe I hadn’t thought of Ikea - will take a look at those too.
I may have to save up for my ‘forever’ pans as I’m on SMP at the moment.
Thanks too for the tip about the smooth bottom, who knew buying pans could be such a task!

Don’t waste your money on a set. You’ll never use them all.

Go to IKEA and get the three pans you use most frequently (which for me would be a stainless steel saucepan, a large non-stick sauté pan or wok, and a small non-stick milk pan). Then add to them as you go. Cast iron works on induction too, and Sainsbury’s casseroles are very good and often reduced.

Having spent 300 odd on pans from John Lewis- my cheap stock pot from ikea works the best on induction!

Surely it depends on what you cook. I use all of a standard 3 saucepan set every time I make a roast dinner.

Barbara I interpreted ‘set’ as meaning at least seven, possibly even nine pans.

A lot of sets are 3 or 4 pans, including those linked to on this, or possibly the other saucepan thread that's running at the moment.

I've never seen a set of 7 or 9 pans.

We use circulon non stick pans and they are fantastic.
Cleaning wise, like a PP we use method and a micro fibre cloth. Although we have found we can't just spray on and leave to settle for a bit to soak in to any stubborn bits because the hob beeps at us too loudly if a spray hits the power button and nothing is on the actual hob.

OK, but ‘set’ implies enough pans to cover most eventualities. Three saucepans wouldn’t do that, surely? I was thinking of the sets which include frying pans etc.

We got a free set of Schulte Ufer ones with our Neff hob which are excellent.

I never use cleaning agents on mine just water then dry with an ecloth. Perfect shine every time.
