Anyone here know about over-a-pub tenancies??

Got a family member wanting to move out to the flat above his place of work below. The landlord is moving into a house separate from the pub and wants people living above the pub(and the rent money).

For various reasons it’s not a great idea, family member he lives with will have to downsize to a one bed as won’t be able to afford the house they share currently. The indivual he would be sharing the flat with is a colleague who blows hot and cold with him...how trustworthy is she to pay her half of rent and bills?

The entrance to the flat is through the pub, so they would be responsible for locking doors behind them to the pub.

My question is is it even above board? Is it ok to rent a flat where the only entrance is through a business premises? Would it void the landlords insurance if something were to happen, break in or fire etc?
In event of such an occurrence, would family member bear any legal responsibility?

Most of the family think he’s bonkers even considering it, no matter what’s said he’s likely to go ahead but I just wondered if it’s even Kocha?

Perfectly normal in the hospitality industry.

I personally wouldn’t move in with a colleague I didn’t get on with.

Is you relative getting free board (just paying tax)?

Nope, has to pay rent, but seems like there are things included such as sky tv
