Nice place for lunch between Congleton and Biddulph

A friend and I need to be in the area for a meeting this week and would like to take advantage of the rare opportunity for a lunch out together first.

We aren't looking for Michelin stars or anything but we'd love to find a nice quiet country pub with decent home-made food.

Any recommendations for somewhere around or between Congleton and Biddulph would be greatly appreciated.

DV8 in Congleton

There is a nice pub in Biddulph near Biddulph Grange. IIRC it is called The Talbot.

Goldmandra · 07/04/2019 22:03

Thank you.

I'm off to Google both of these.

The Castle on Congleton Road (between Biddulph and Congleton) is really good, better than the Talbot (and I really like the Talbot!). Smile

I might have to find an excuse for some extra meetings so I can try all of these places.

I'm clearly not knowledgeable of places outside of London.. Congleton and Biddulph look like made up places to me. How shameful.

Goldmandra · 07/04/2019 23:00

Speaking as someone who lives near North Piddle, Upton Snodsbury and Pink Green, I think Congleton and Biddulph sound like very normal place names Grin

Roaring Meg, Biddulph.

Food is good, staff are pleasant and it’s not expensive. Normal pub food.

Alternative is Glebe Farm. Has some nice shops and lovely cafe.

Also Congleton Garden Centre has a lovely cafe too.

Ooh too many choices Wink

I personally don’t like the Talbot and the Castle changed hands in the last 4-6 months of so and haven’t been since the change - it used to be ok.

Comefromaway · 07/04/2019 23:20

I’ve heard the Roaring Meg is good. Never been over enamoured with The Castle. I really like the Rising Sun in Scholar Green.

Pecks is a bit fancy for my taste.

Comefromaway · 07/04/2019 23:24

I can’t believe there is a thread about Biddulph!

Fadbook · 07/04/2019 23:25

@Comefromaway I thought that too Grin

JangleBangle · 07/04/2019 23:28

Me neither! It was a bit of a shock to see my town pop up. The Roaring Meg is just down the road from me!

BasilWhoosh · 07/04/2019 23:53

Rising Sun in Scholar Green is lovely. Friendly staff and great food.

Fadbook · 07/04/2019 23:55

@JangleBangle ooh hi neighbour Wink

Comefromaway · 07/04/2019 23:56

I’m a little further away but my parents live there and I have a child at one of the schools.

Congleton Garden Centre near me is fab. I go there around 1x a month. A great place to catch up with friends.

camelfinger · 08/04/2019 06:04

For one moment I thought this was baby names.
