English heritage/national trust recommendations for day trip (s)

Hi I’m looking for somewhere to go later this week for a day out/overnight trip with some older children. We have both National Trust and English Heritage membership but ideally don’t want to drive more than about three hours from London. Please can anyone suggest a marvellous attraction(s) to go and see. More interested in complete stately homes or castles rather than ruins or just parks and even better if there are one or two things closer together. We have already been to Dover castle and Kenilworth Castle and Woburn Abby and loved these if these are anything to go by. Thanks.

I'm not sure I'd use the word marvellous! but I do like scotney castle and Batemans (which is the home of ruidyard Kipling).

Portchester Castle, mottisfont, the vibe are all pretty lovely.

I haven’t been but a friend went recently & says it’s wonderful. (No kids with her though)

Montisfont is lovely nr romsey, Hampshire

Or Waddesdon. There are several other NTs fairly close too

Not quite what you've asked for but for a long day trip/overnight. The national space centre near Leicester is brilliant for all ages.

Some of Waddeson is closed at the moment from what I remember.
