Do you like revisiting childhood places?

Towns where you lived, parks, schools, museums, places you went on holiday?

I do sometimes. I have a very vivid memory of childhood, and I often do like to visit places I remember, to see if they are how I remembered them, often to see them looking smaller now, and being reminded of things I had forgotten about. Mostly I love doing this, and it's nice to spot specific things I remember, but sometimes it feels very strange if I find I don't remember it much after all, or something has changed a lot; I often find that in playgrounds, the tall climbing frames and slides have been replaced with "safer" brightly coloured stuff, or schools have new buildings.

I recently went to visit my childhood home, streets, schools etc. We were travelling back from somewhere else, and did a slight detour to show my children where I grew up. (Have now moved far away). It was dark when we got there, but we stood outside my childhood home, and I showed them where I used to play. I didn't feel anything!! I didn't have a happy childhood, and I just felt nothing for the area at all. When we got home, I just discussed with my dh, how it was strange, all those years ago, when I was playing on that street at the age of 6, 7, 8 etc, I never would have imagined stepping on those pavements and standing outside my old house with children of my own, (who are 11 and 14).
I went to the isle of wight a lot as a child, and that has been weird going back as an adult, as some of the original models are there and there was a model teapot, that I remember being really high, and now its about knee height Grin
