New TV - help needed

I am looking to buy a 40/42 inch smart tv, it's for dh's birthday and to go on the wall in our bedroom.
It doesn't need to be absolute top of the range, but would like it to be as good as possible. Preferably under £300.

Can anyone help? I'm a total novice at this kind of thing.

Have you got a branch of Richer Sounds near you? They really seem to know what they are talking about. Give a longer guarantee than most and have been around for years. Only sell decent quality stuff so stops you getting a cheap TV with poor picture quality. On website seem to have a few TVs that would suit you. They were really helpful on the phone when we couldn't set up our fancy TV.

I got mine from AO. They price March and you can read lots of reviews on there. Mine’s a Toshiba.
