Hi,

Can anyone help with hair loss remedies?

I'm 43 and my hair has been thinning for a few months now, it's receding along my hair line on one side and on the top of my head I've got hundreds of hairs that are short amongst the longer ones, it looks awful, each hair appears to be in good condition with no splits but it stands on end.

I've never had thick hair and always gone through periods of losing more than usual but it's never affected the overall appearance like it has now.

I brush it carefully and never pull it and on the occasions I use straighteners I use heat defence spray, I've been taking biotin and a multi vitamin for 4 months but it's not slowing.

I'm reassured in a way that at least it does grow back and I'm not being left with totally bald patches but it's really getting me down as it looks like a fuzzy mess all the time and I'm so conscious of the tuft that stands up on the top.

My scalp has always been tender especially on the top, I can't bear anyone else brushing it and it often feels like I've just taken a ponytail out and am pushing it the wrong way, it's not red or flaky though.

I was going to try Plantur 39 today but have read conflicting reviews.

Go to the doctor and get some blood tests this will rule out things like deficiencies and thyroid issues, etc that can cause hair loss. If everything comes back good, you can look at more topical type treatments. You say that has happened before so it could possibly be stress related? I’ve had stress related hair loss, reducing stress is really the only way to tackle it!

I would really ask for a referral to a specialist. This is not everyday hair loss, there is obvioulsy somethign going on with your scalp, and loss and regrowth like this is not an everyday pattern.

Go, get a referral, get some expert adive, and treatment.

Thanks, regarding stress I was put on Citalopram last February which I took until December, the hair loss was the same throughout.

I'll book in with the doctors, he's pretty useless though, I rarely go but when I do it's like hitting a brick wall because he's so dismissive, I might tell a white lie and say a hairdresser has had a look and says it needs investigating.

I've bought the Plantur 39, it can't hurt so I'll use it anyway.

The loss only seems to be happening along the hair line and the crown, if I lift the top layer up and feel the back and sides it feels normal.
