Absolutely bonkers row going on in our village over parking

There’s a massive row going on on our village website. It’s hilarious. The people that live on the main road are complaining that the people in the cul-de-sac don’t leave them all enough space to park their cars. They don’t like parking on the Main Street (MS) because their cars get damaged by passing traffic. Apparently the cul-de-sac (CS) people should be more considerate of their fellow villagers, particularly the ones who have managed to buy a house with no off-street parking, and make room for them in their CDS. MS villagers are calling one of the CDS villagers selfish for having the audacity to have a company car as well as a private car and taking up too much room in the road that they actually live in. It’s actually got quite nasty.

Am I missing something here? If you buy a house on a main road with no off-road parking you know what you’re getting. How is it anyone else’s problem? They’re being really rude. Perhaps I should log on and offer to rent my driveway, I could fit about ten cars down it and people seem to think it’s a bloody parking lot anyway judging by the cheeky women I’ve encountered recently.

They are bonkers aren’t they? Confused

Ok I think it’s a national site, it’s a bit outing but it’s about our village - here.

I particularly like the bit about how it would be a nice gesture of the driveway owners to offer parking room on the road for eberyone else.

Shall I try and do a diagram?

Hilarious. Sounds like some of the people in farm close are being purposely obtuse though, eg parking all the work vans on the rd whilst their own driveway is clear but equally the Main Street residents can’t expect farm close residents to clear space for them to park, they obviously were aware their properties had no off rd parking when they bought so sort of tough shit really.

Amazing

What a great sport you are to link that website too!

I think some people believe that when you move to the country then you can park as you please.

They are mistaken.

No their own driveway isn’t clear, it’s got their own cars on it! They park the vans on their road outside their house, I think.

I did wander past and have a look, just to be nosy. I think it’s the CDS where people turn round in a lot and it’s always a bit congested. There’s plenty of room on the MS, they just don’t want to use it. In my opinion the more parked cars there are out there the more they slow the traffic down.

They are Larry. We’ve had people parking in our driveway because they couldn’t get parked in the lane and then sod off to wherever they were visiting. I’ve had to have words with people and explain that it isn’t an extension of the lane, it’s our driveway and I don’t want to be boxed in. People get really arsey about their parking.

People are Mad Entitled.

If you live in a house without parking, you live in a house without parking. That doesn’t entitle you to anything else! You can’t allocate other space on the road for yourself and getting weird about other people using it.
