Day out from Bognor Regis?

Any advice for a day out from bogner Regis? We are at Butlins (which is amazing!) going to Brighton Monday and Tuesday.

Me and DH, teens staying at Butlins all day. We like charity shops, market town.

Chichester? Portsmouth?

The Butkus is amazing, anyone else been?

Chichester castle.

Oh is there a castle there. It’s really close too.

Any nice charity shops 😂

Do you mean Arudel Castle ( which is amazing) or Chichester Cathedral ( which is also great but having work done - lovely gardens)? Chichester is free and has charity shops and is a very markety market town.

Portsmouth Harbour is great to look around and a bit of shopping and lunch at Gunwharf. You have to pay though ( offers on Groupon quite often). Portsmouth central is dire. Southsea is nice to wander along the sea.

We went to Arundel when we were staying at Butlins and it was gorgeous.

Chichester sounds lovely and never been.

We drove through lovely marker town on way to Bognor Regis. Was it petford? It was a lovely drive.

Amberley working museum or the weald and downland museum (I think that’s what it’s called). Also Arundel castle, Chichester cathedral, there’s the wetland trust in Arundel too. Or maybe Portsmouth?

TheFaerieQueene · 05/04/2019 19:58

Selsey Bill is lovely for a walk.
Chichester is nice.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 05/04/2019 19:59

Petworth!

Go to Chichester. It has four separate pedestrianised roads that meet in the middle. You can walk along the Roman walls from the bottom of Morth street. Loads of charity shops on South,East and West street.

Portsmouth is fabulous, you've got the historic dockyard, lovely seafront and the spinnaker tower. I really love Portsmouth.

Ingesw · 05/04/2019 20:10

Portsmouth dock yards would be good, look round the Mary Rose and HMS Victoty then do some discount shopping at Gunwharf quays and go up the Spinnaker Tower. There are also plenty places to eat.

Chichester is nice enough but I think I’d struggle to do a whole day there, you could go on to Bosham in the same day and have a walk around as that is very pretty.

Arundel is nice, the castle is pricey but you can pick and choose which bits you want to pay to see, the gardens are lovely and on a clear day there are amazing views from the Castle Keep. If you like a walk you can walk from the town along the river which is good.

Also random but is Beachy Head nice for a walk. It’s a bit far and just read a book set there and quite fancy it!

Beachy head is lovely! As is the whole of West Wittering beach. Pack up a picnic and spend a good while down there if the weathers good. The car park is pricey...

Petworth is lovely and has a wonderful National Trust property with beautiful grounds. If you park there you can easily walk into the town which is quirky and quaint.

Arundel is also a historical town with nice walks and the castle is great.

Lots of country walks nearby if you like that sort of thing- Eartham woods, Kingley Vale, The Trundle.

VioletCharlotte · 05/04/2019 20:43

If the weathers ok, go to West Wittering for a walk on the beach. It's such a beautiful beach, my favourite place to go. We always go to East Wittering afterwards to visit the old fashioned sweet shop and get fish and chips.

Chichester's nice for a wander around, but no different to any other town centre really. There's quite a few charity shops.

Brighton's fab!

Beachy Head is interesting but I found it rather unsettling and I wouldn't want to go there with kids. I don't like heights, especially cliffs. Even looking at pictures of it freaks me out!

Arundel is lovely and definitely worth a visit.

West Quay is not too far, but the shops are really pricey, even though it's an outlet. My teen DS loves it there, I've needed bought a thing (except from the Lindt shop!) it's nice to walk around the marina though and the Spinnaker tower is good. You could also go to the historic docklands and see HMS Victory, my kids loved that when they were little. Southsea is within walking distance. There's a (fairly rubbish!) fair and arcades the kids may like and a big common with adventure playground. Southsea itself is full of charity shops.
Depending on budget, you could even take the hovercraft over the Isle of Wight, my boys loved it when we did that.

Ah too little time! So lovely down here.

Think we will do Chichester, posssibly Arundel, then Bosham and maybe Portsmouth!

Thanks all for help!

Loved Chichester, lovely place, great food and shops. Spent hours there. Then went Bosham which we loved. Kids spent hours on rope and tyre swings.

Then thought let’s have a walk round Bogner 🙈 which was a bit of a mistake.

Great day.

Thanks all
