Im 31 and have a year left. Dh is 41

YessicaHaircut · 05/04/2019 14:23

I’m 36, DH is 43 and we have 24 years left. We planned it so it will be paid off when DH hits retirement age; I’ll be 60 then. However we’re hoping to start making overpayments when the fixed term ends next year (we aren’t able to overpay for the first 5 years without penalty) so we should pay it off earlier.
We once sat down and tried to figure out how much we had spent over the years on rent before we were able to buy and it was in the region of £150k between us!

Yogagirl123 · 05/04/2019 14:27

Paid off mortgage when we were 31.

FookMeFookYou · 05/04/2019 14:28

36 and 22 years left...

Ffsnosexallowed · 05/04/2019 14:30

43 and 17 years in theory, but we'll downsize before then. Aim to be mortgage free in about 10 years

SherlockSays · 05/04/2019 14:32

30 and we have 26 years left.

It's currently only £500 a month but we're about to remortgage and take quite a bit out for home improvements.

scaryteacher · 05/04/2019 14:33

53 and technically til late 2021, but it will be gone by November. Sub £29k now!

SherlockSays · 05/04/2019 14:34

And as others have said, the plan is to have it done and dusted before being 60.

Chocolate50 · 05/04/2019 14:34

51 & 6 years

TheDogIsMyFave · 05/04/2019 14:35

26 - and have 26 years left.

hihellohihey · 05/04/2019 14:36

24 and 30 years left raaaaank

scaryteacher · 05/04/2019 14:36

Dh retires for the second time at 58 in December, so have no debt now other than the mortgage. Once that's gone, then we are free and clear.

mummymayhem18 · 05/04/2019 14:37

43 and mortgage free on 2 properties. Bought outright when I was around 37 from an inheritance.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 05/04/2019 14:37

38, 17 years left. We will overpay a little which will shorten that.

cleanasawhistle · 05/04/2019 14:39

Morgage was payed off when I was 45 and husband 47

Teddybear45 · 05/04/2019 14:40

I buy coffees, lunches, beauty treatments, holidays and still overpay the mortgage. No excuse for neglecting yourself just need to be more circumspect when you do spend. I have 10 years left. Am 37.

BoogleMcGroogle · 05/04/2019 14:40

Both 40, with about 10 years left. This feels fine and manageable. I really like Barbara's advice. Spend a little, save a little. Don't go crazy, but spend what you have on what you like. I think (know) a lot of people on our income have swizzy cars and designer wotnots. I'm happy with my Fiesta and clothes from Next. We also have a pretty ordinary, but I think lovely house here. On the other hand, we travel a lot, eat well and pay school fees, and we enjoy the freedom a small mortgage gives us to make that choice.

MrsMalcolm · 05/04/2019 14:40

43 and 12 years left. We have still have over half to pay! It was a 25 year mortgage.

FreckledLeopard · 05/04/2019 14:43

I'm 38 and have 11 years left. I took the decision to shorten the term by 7 years when I last re-mortgaged, which was a way of effectively over-paying. Am just hoping that interest rates remain low that the next fixed rate mortgage I take out, when re-mortgaging, allows me to keep the length of time for repayment the same, without having to pay through the nose.

I just want the mortgage paid off ASAP.

prettyhibiscusflowers · 05/04/2019 14:44

I’m 31 and have 14 years left.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/04/2019 14:45

Just started overpaying this month - 13 years to go if we keep it up

LegoPeopleEverywhere · 05/04/2019 14:48

34, have 4 years left but will probably overpay and clear it in 2 or 3.

Live in a cheap part of the country and bought a £100k house which fulfils our needs, rather than a £180k house (maximum mortgage we were offered), and have overpaid from the start.
