Cystitis so bad I wet myself

Just that really & how long until the antibiotics kick in.
Firstly I had to stop at a pub & ask to use their loo only for a dribble to come out. I needed to go as soon as I got back in the car.
I spent all afternoon going to the loo every 2 minutes & then on one occasion I just didn’t make it on time. I was at a cleaning job & thankfully I was on my own. I had to sit on a carrier bag on the way home 😓

Depends on what the ABs are - whether they a the 'right' ones for your infection. Did the GP send a urine sample off?

If the ABs are right, I usually feel an improvement after a couple of doses. If it's not improving go back to the GP - they may need changing.

If they are the right ABs and you are drinking copious amounts of water i can kick in in three hours.

keepingbees · 05/04/2019 09:40

Poor you it's so painful Sad I was always told 24 hours ish for ABs to start working. In the meantime drink as much water as you can manage to help flush it out. Cranberry juice is also supposed to help.

One of those cystitis sachets, lots of water, ibuprofen and I can feel so much better after just one AB. It takes me hours for it to calm down of a morning so that's my go-to after waking with it anyway. If I'm not at work I just sit on the toilet for about half an hour as I find that helps the discomfort as there is no holding in.

Thanks all. The ABs are MacroBid.
I feel incredibly feverish every time I go to the loo.
Hopefully they will kick in today

Cystitis is just horrible :( Cystopurin sachets are a miracle though - they ease it really quickly for me, and I swear by D-mannose capsules taken daily for prevention. It's the ingredient from cranberries that stops bacteria sticking to your bladder wall. I used to get cystitis all the time, but I've been taking d-mannose for about a year and I've only had one very minor episode in all that time

Imstickingwiththisone · 05/04/2019 13:56

Will have to try d-mannose spiderlight! Never heard of it and just seen Dr about cystitis as I get it after sex every time now. Sex is infrequent so silver lining is I get a bit of a break from cystitis Grin

I'd rather not have to get ABs every time.

MacroBid can cause heart palpitations, if you think you are having a heart attack don't panic, it will be the side effects.

AnotherNight - sympathy. It happened to me with a particularly bad bout of cystitis, back when I was a student. I can still remember the feeling of absolute humiliation (even though I was ill, it wasn't my fault, it wasn't something I could control). Hope the ABs kick in soon.
