Silence for sleep

How do I get silence?
I know some people like white noise or a ticking clock or something for sleep.
I am the opposite.
I am struggling with noises at night. Random noises- birds, neighbours etc are fine. But I can't bear the humming of electrical stuff. I turn off the central heating at night but stuff around me is still humming. Does anyone else get this?

Apologies if you’ve tried this, but you can get pretty good foam earplugs these days. I use them as I have a snory husband and they work a treat! Can’t say I notice electrical sounds though, that sounds rather annoying!

Sleep outside?

Sorry, probs not very helpful. Do you know what exactly is humming?

Thanks. I've just asked dh if we can turn the boiler off completely every night! He thinks it's the fridge actually. I would love to sleep outside. I can't wear earplugs as I am claustrophobic.
