When did you last blancmange?

There was a pudding served where I work which somebody described as "blancmange". 2 of my work-chums asked "what's that?". They had never experienced the cold wobbliness of blancmange. Shock

When was the last time you partook of a little blancmange?

Is blancmanging dying out?

I thought it was jelly made with milk! You learn something new every day ey.

tinyradish · 04/04/2019 22:31

Never!

AlunWynsKnee · 04/04/2019 22:35

Hideous stuff. I haven't had it since the early 70s and I don't intend to try it again.

Mysterian · 04/04/2019 22:35

There are other ways to serve it:

ground jelly and yogurt is a smoother, creamier jelly which is more like the blancmange I remember than Angel Delight that someone else mentioned. Angel Delight isn’t even set, it’s more like a custard than blancmange.

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 22:36

It’s great and a good way to get children to get more calcium in their diet.

preggersteach · 04/04/2019 22:38

@Mum11970 you're making angel delight wrong if it's the consistency of custard!

BikeRunSki · 04/04/2019 22:45

About 1985

SneakyGremlins · 04/04/2019 22:54

I eat it almost weekly.

SneakyGremlins · 04/04/2019 22:56

@mum11970 are you not putting your angel delight in the fridge?????

morewashingtodooo · 04/04/2019 23:03

This thread is to much Wink

I made it for dd a few times in the last year. She likes all flavours except chocolate. We use a bunny mould, the one my mum used in the 80s. I'm going to have to go and buy another one of those mixed packs now, I really fancy some!

WitsEnding · 04/04/2019 23:11

Made it about 4 weeks ago when I couldn't raise the enthusiasm to go shopping for yoghurt ... used up the squirty cream as a topping too Blush

friendlyfish · 04/04/2019 23:12

I make muhallebi which I think is very similar. I flavour it with rosewater or orange blossom water.

DuesToTheDirt · 04/04/2019 23:14

1973 I should think.

BaronessBomburst · 04/04/2019 23:15

1978 and it was pink.

HopeClearwater · 04/04/2019 23:16

Brown & Polson chocolate flavour. Food of the gods.

FoxSquadKitten · 04/04/2019 23:16

Probably in about 1979 god I'm old. My Dad used to make it and it was bright pink not that baby wishy washy pink in the above photos.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 04/04/2019 23:17

serve it in a shoe
🤣🤣

onemouseplace · 04/04/2019 23:17

Always with green jelly grass.

I have fond memories of my pink blancmange bunny on a bed of green jelly grass birthday spectacular c. 1982 with the obligatory raisins at the arse end placed by my uncle ...

To be fair, DH would totally pull the same trick now, given half the opportunity.

DrBuckles · 04/04/2019 23:18

Blancmange is the worst thing to ever fall in to the dessert catergory ever.

How can something be wobbly yet paste like yet scummy all at once?

And my angel delight is not like mousse, it’s smoother than that but not as smooth as custard.

Dinosforall · 04/04/2019 23:27

Never. Are you visiting from 1975?

Bezalelle · 04/04/2019 23:35

I love the example with the brown M&Ms as "droppings"!
