How to relocate?

Currently live in the South but want to move to Scotland, probably Glasgow.

Now single and no kids so nothing like schools to consider.

Own own house outright and approx value is £200,000. Have about £10,000 saved.

Have a science degree and current job is ok but nothing special. Jobs fairly easy to come by in my industry but no transfers with my current employer. No qualms about leaving and not very far into career.

I don’t know how to go about it - I know I’m being a faffer!

Should I sell house, rent somewhere then get a job or try and get a new job first? I just don’t really know the best way of doing it and sort of feel paralysed with indecision but I need to do something to change my situation for the better.

What are other’s experiences of relocating when not being supported by an employer for a career move?

I think a job would be the sensible thing to do first. Gives you an idea of where abouts you would need to be living and how much you would have to live off.

Look for recruitment agencies that specialise in your industry.
Can you take a few days off to travel to have some chats with local recruitment agencies? Research ideal employers and apply speculatively with a good cover letter.
We relocated to Glasgow recently and did not find it too difficult to get jobs. We were lucky to have family to stay with as it took a long time to get our old house sold, but this gave us time to work out what area we wanted to move to permanently.
